With basic intake and exhaust mods along with 22 inch tires and 15/41 gearing i outrun same modded predators, 450rs, and raptor 660s fairly easy. This is flat ground on roads....not hills/dunes. Buy a good slipon pipe, remove airbox, add k and n filter, keep snorkle tube to carb, drill carb slide and jet up, port intake, buy cdi.

check HPR... erics got a new dual exhaust system in the works, he told me it made BIG gains on
a stock ds..... i dont think its done yet, but soon....
lectron or tm45 carb., ported intake, if you ride in wet weather (like here in wisconsin) id
suggest a twin-air power flow foam air filter kit....(very nice).... vortex cdi,......
i have a ron woods ported intake if your interested....
but if ya want some arm ripping power you have to open her up.......

I'm extremely impressed with the new 700's. My Wife's is still in stock but a few buds have the intake / exhaust / programmer and they are ahead of my buddy on his Ron Wood Stage II DS.
One buddy with a 700 (it's his Wife's) brought it up the last trip for a quick day trip instead of his own YFZ450 because he didn't want to be losing races all weekend. . . Yep, the 700 with the "3-mods" (Air filter / Exhaust / Programmer) is faster than the YFZ's with Exhaust / Air Filter and Intake Adapter - re-jetted. And not just a little faster. . . a number of lengths on the hill.
I expect the new 450's due out this next summer will have EFI and will probably have a few other goodies to make it faster than the Raptor again. . . we'll see. The 700 will still be a great duner. Not having to be wound out is a bit of an easier ride. The 700 has some awesome grunt.
As to weather or not to sell your DS to get a new Raptor. . . I think that is a bit extreme. . .
I still love the DS. I've never been on a more comfortable quad. . .

out of all the suggestions you'll need to pick the right one for ur setup, like exhaust, a low end or a top end exhaust, or a cdi box, a ron wood to cut it all together or a vortex to have maps. pipe and cdi are your 2 givens that you'll need with proper jetting of course. I like the 15tooth front sprocket for the low end, but i run the mud machine a/t rear tires for ultimate traction, cause the lighter machines take off like bullets, with my setup i've never had a raptor or yfz jump me off the line, never raced a 450r or raptor 700 tho.
Also depends on how deep you want to go with mods, do u want hardcore engine mods or not, u put the works into ur engine and they wont touch ya lol, nothing beats a ROTAX!!

I guess if i do keep it and just do mods without terring the engine down.Like the hmf exhuast, vortex or woods cdi,esr inline water cooler and LATTER down the line a aftermarket carb.I need to save some money!A cdi is going to kick my a** in the pocket for being 300plus dollars.I dont really understand the whole carb idea. And there expensive. Is a Lectron just a bolt on and then rejett basically.Or do i have to do other things.I definetly am getting a hmf exhuast soon as i get money saved. Then the jets. Then down the road a cdi.
