Default WINCH HELP

HEY GUYS, i HAVE A 2007 CAN AM 800 MAX XT. FRIDAY AFTERNOON MY BUDDY GOT STUCK ON MY GRIZZLY 700 SO I RELEASED MY WINCH, PULLED IT OUT ABOUT 20 FT AND HOOKED TO HIM. i THEN LOCKED MY WINCH AND STARTED TO PULL HIM OUT WHILE HE TRIED TO REVERSE THE GRIZZ.
THERE WAS NOT A LOT OF PRESSURE ON THE WINCH WHEN IT MADE A POP SOUND AND STOPPED PULLING. IT SOUNDED JUST LIKE i HAD UNLOCKED IT AND TRIED TO WINCH. I STOPPED AND STARTED TO WINCH AGAIN AND IT HOOKED BACK UP AND STARTED PULLING. IT DID THIS THREE OR FOUR DIFFERENT TIMES BEFORE HE WAS FINALLY UNSTUCK. IS THE WINCH GEAR STRIPPED OUT OR SOMETHING. THIS IS ONLY THE THIRD TIME I HAVE HAD TO USE THE WINCH AND IT WORKED FLAWLESSLY TO OTHER 2 TIMES. ANYBODY HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM IS? THANKS FOR ANY INPUT

Default WINCH HELP

My guess is the cable had some "slack" spots in it

Your winch has been worn out by EXCESSIVE CAP LOCKS. Be sure to bring your keyboard in on an accelerated maintenance schedule otherwise it will give you the same problems as your winch. j/k

I had a problem like that with both winches. It has not happened since going to synthetic rope so I suspect it was a problem with the steel cable bunching up.

Default WINCH HELP

Sorry for the all caps I was in a hurry when I typed the post. It is not the cable, I could pull the winch cable out while my friend was pushuing the in button on the winch . I made sure it was locked and that he was pressing the correct button and it still did the same thing, the all of a sudden it would start winching again, then slip then winch, slip winch...you get the idea. i am not familar with the inner workings of a winch, but does it have teeth on the gear or something similar that could have chipped or broken?

I'm not sure if the outy has the warn 2500ci like I had but I tore a warn 2500c.i. apart due to it filling with mud because the rods had broken. After tearing it apart it was very straight forward there is 2 gears I belive on the one end and on the other it also has a spring. You can clean it out and repack both ends with grease and be back on the trail.
