Default 520 coversion question .....Again

I've run a previous RK X-ring chain (530-110) and it took a good beating, i loved that chain, yea it might weigh more, but has a HUGE tensil strength and i dont have to check it or lube it as much as any other chain. so the deals rocky mountain has right now are just to good to pass up, i just ordered the chain w/ master link for $64, a new titax 15 tooth front sprocket $8 and a new titax rear alloy 40 tooth sprocket $10, combo deal for $82 is pretty sweet

So the stock chain link on a 2005 ds would be a 109 link not including the masterlink.Im not sure because the 2004-05 ds have shorter swing arm right.

Mine 04 had 104 links. Just count the links you have now on your stock chain, order the same size or larger and cut what you don't need

Default 520 coversion question .....Again

I do not ride mud with my DS, I have a 4X4 for that.

I went with the non sealed chain for the reasons DSengineer listed. Lighter, less friction (if maintained). Since I got an aluminum rear 520 sprocket I know it will wear faster that a good o or x ring chain and if the sprocket wore out before the chain i would want to replace the chain anyway, so I went this route.

I will see how this set up wears, then decided about going to Sidewinder.

I do wish someone with the complete Sidewinder kit would weigh it on a good scale. I weighed my set up as well as a stock setup on a postal scale and the stock chain by itself was just over 5Lbs. The Sidewinder site lists the whole stock setup (chain and sprocket) as only 4Lbs 8.4 Oz. so I do not trust them when they list their kit as only 2Lbs 5.4oz. Link Thats lighter than just my new chain!!

One things for sure, the 520 sure look tiny after the 530.

I really did not phrase that well Nathan.
I know what you mean about mud, I have pictures of me from when I was 8 with my first ATV (Honda ATC 90) in 1974, until I went into the Army in '87. Man I looked for every mud hole around and I would get soaked to the bone in 10 to 20 degree weather, spend hours cleaning the mess up and then do it again the next time my friends would come over. Great Memories for sure.

I never really got back into mud riding since I got back into Quads in 2000. I guess I'm just too old an lazy at this point.
