Why does everyone use ds650's for street bike conversions? Why not a pred? it has a pretty big frame too. and you dont see too many R1/raptors.
And why not use the kfx700 and put a snowmobile engine in it? it is already a 90 degree v-twin and has lots of room for more.
just thinking out loud- not meaning to offend the people who love/ride/build bombusa's or other ds/crotchrockets

Have you ever sat on a KFX700? Alot like a 4 inch balance beam, and not many of us are built like gymnast. More like Sumo wrestlers1
It boils down to the platform that is most stable, reliable, and comfortable. Some pride may be involved to. Next time your out at the dunes just compare how many Bombs you see compared to what everyone else is riding.

If i do that on my ds250 which is 40.5 inches wide. i can left a back tire of the ground. but the kfx wouldnt do it. I thought it was very comfy though, other than the very low handlebars.

The DS is really overbuilt and the chassis can take the extra weight and twisting forces of the quadrupled HP. The radiator is already big enough for a streetbike motor and the early hubs were heavy enough for a small sand car. The axle is enormous. The stock DS engine is already heavy enough that it isn't a huge difference to go to a modern streetbike powerplant. Another thing is that you can pick up a decent used DS for around $2500, sell the engine and unneeded parts and have a rolling chassis for cheap.
Or you can try to find a lighter, smaller chassis, with breakage issues onstock bikes, and then run 180HP on aluminum a-arms.
