the tension is from the springs in the throttle bodies you are pulling against, the spring under the cover of the thumb lever housing is of little significance and removal offers little to no relief.
aside from extensions, you can sometimes get more comfort by simply repositioning the lever to line up with your thumb differently. try rotating the assembly down farther so you are using the meat of your hand to push it, rather than just drawing your thumb.
just a suggestion, I've not messed with the outys yet but rotating the lever down on a lot of other quads helps bunches.

Stay away from the "Handy Throttle" made by Handy Throttle. This product is very dangerous </end quote></div>
Right. And ATVs are dangerous too. Should they be pulled from the market?
They have their place just like many other accessories for ATVs.

I believe I found a solution. My thumb was positioned too close to the pivot point on the throttle lever causing much more tension and effort to push it. I adjusted the lever by loosening the screws and sliding it down the handlebar away from the grip so that the tip of my thumb now rests on the edge of the throttle lever therefore creating more leverage and less tension to push it. Now I can ride much longer with no pain.
