I have asked and recieved some good info back from a few members, but thought I would throw it out here. I've done alot of reading, but usually the topic ends up being focused on the 45 or one of the lectrons. I'm curious about just the 42 and I'm wanting to know if anybody has real world experience and what you thought about it. Thanks.

it always ends up directed to the 45 cause the 42 and 45 are the same price, unless you find a good deal on a used 42 or something
so very few run the 42 since the 45 offers more peek hp gains and is the same price
and since very few run the 42, there is little talk of it

I have never seen a dyno comparison of stock vs 42 on same bike same day same dyno, but if there is a peek hp gain it can't be much, cause in reality the peek hp gains of using a lectron hv46 or tm45 is under 5hp, the hpr website dyno sheets show a 5 hp increase over stock from combination of pipe/carb/filter.

but the gains that will be seen using the 42 are faster more instantaneous throttle response provided by accel pump for easier log, rut, root hopping, much easier jetting changes during your tuning phases between motor builds and pipe/airbox/bolt on power play and also when changing altitudes, due to the access plug in the bottom of the bowl, and reportedly from others I have read about using this carb over the years as well as the guys running the 450R carb on their DS is better low and midrange than the stock vacuum slide carb provides.

If buying new, might as well go 45, but if a really good deal comes along for a 42 then IMO it is worth the install on a stock motor

Thanks for the input Hightower.

I've always been a fan of getting up to speed quickly. I don't usually run WOT to much. The 42 sounds promising, and it also sounds like it will be good for my style of riding. When it gets here I'll get it put on and update this thread with a "seat of the pants" comparison to the stock carb incase anyone else ever has the opurtunity to get one cheap.
