Engine oil ? for the engine guru's
#11
stir, thats what Im saying. there isnt anything added to motorcycle oil that improves its lubricity over a regular automotive oil. personally detergents dont bother me and I do believe they keep blow by residue from building up and discoloring the inside of your motor and blocking oil pasages. to each his own of course but I have been running castrol for many years in some fairly high hp engines and have never had an engine fail due to lubrication issues. most of my bikes get an oil change every trip.

This is what has saved you.
Most synthetic oils are more slippery and that doesn't help our wet clutch. Klotz techniplate on the other hand is synthetic and it bites as hard as anything I have ever seen. I have seen Klotz bring back a clutch that started slipping on T-4 with over 130 hp on Nitrous (DS650 motor).
It is overkill to change your oil after every trip on a DS650 in my opinion unless you are running alcohol. I change mine about every 8 weekends of riding or 4 months. We have almost 4 quarts circulating in a dry sump system. That keeps it cool and the same oil particles are recirculating very infrequently with that large of a reservoir.
I put 500 hrs on my 2000 DS650 before the topend got rebuilt and there was little to no ridge in the cylinder. It only needed a hone when we put it back together. 500 hrs before a rebuild is a much longer interval than these engine manufacturers would expect. If this were a YFZ450, I would say change it every couple of weekends......... delicate parts and small oil capacity in a high strung motor......

Same here. I also run it in my Raptor..........

I agree. Bought my Ds in March of 2001. I have always ran Klotz techniplate 10w-40. NEVER have debris on the oil tank filter. Always runs great & the clutch sticks. I emailed Klotz once since the owners manual says "no synthetic" Klotz said they had actually done tests on a DS650 & it would work perfect. So far, so good.
Also, I change my oil only like twice a year. I cannot imagine paying $8.50 each X4 quarts after every two hour ride!!!!

Duneriderx, I run Amsoil motorcycle 20-50 in every bike and fourstroke snowmobile I own. It is some of the best on the market. Not only do you get the advantage of synthetics, you also get a higher viscosity for extreme heat applications. You will not have any issues with your clutch either.
Of course, I run Amsoil in everything I own....19 engines, from very small yard working tools, to backhoes. Good stuff in my opinion.

all three of my diesels get chevron Delo. again , to each his own and most likely if you dont buy 99 cent "safeway brand oil" or "golden bear oil" but use a name brand stuff and change it regularly you wont have any oil related issues.
