Default GSXR 750 DS?

First off let me tell ya guys hi, its be along time since Ive posted.

Heres my question: Has anybody used a 750 inteed of the mamooth 1300 for a conversion. The reason I ask is because Im looking into it. I sure I will be more than happy with a buck fourty hp. Ive sen all of these vids of Busa powered DS's and think to myself that that would be fun,but not good for much other than scaring myself and others. I was thinking that maybe the conversion would be alittle easier because of the cc difference.

If Im sounding tarded here just let me know. Again, its good to some of the same faces here, peace out gentlemen!

Default GSXR 750 DS?

Wouldn't that small of eng be better in a smaller frame, like a YFZ, Z400, or a Banshee?

Beats me, thats why I asked? See the thing is I already have a sick (not the cool sick) DS650 sitting in the backyard.

I think you might find that the builders would say its a possibility that the torque would be very low. When curtis had his 1000 gixxer, I had to keep it within a pretty narrow RPM band in order for it to really rip. That wasnt at all the case with the 1300. So, a lighter frame might be something to consider with that engine.

Cynick's R1 Raptor makes 183 hp at the crank but it makes 136 at the rear tires for a number of reasons.

A 750 with considerably less torque (about 25% less) will carry even a smaller percentage of its crank hp to the rear tires assuming similar setup, intake and exhaust.

Also, picture a dyno acceleration curve that is a fairly straight line from the bottom left to the top right of the dyno grid while the motor is in its streetbike chassis. Now install that motor in an ATV with huge paddles and put it in sand and that same dyno curve would have a huge belly in it from all the extra load and will peak significantly lower. The bigger the motor (more torque) the straighter that line will be in the ATV.




Disclaimer: Obviously the dyno curve would never be a straight line. I simply used that as a starting point for the illustration.

Never thought about the torque output. Thats pretty important concidering the weight of the DS and my chunky butt. Well scratch that idea. Torque..............hum how about a Harley DS JUST KIDDING. HayaBomer it is! Hope you guys are up toanswering some questions for a novice fabricator. Thanks again guys!

mongo- I'd say go with at least a 1000cc motor, same amount of work as a 750 to install but a lot more motor, will have better resale than a 750. The 1300 are more work than a 1000 to get in the bike and I'm not sure that it's worth the extra effort unless your a really big guy and want the torque of the busa motor. I'd recommend the GSXR1000 for your first bike.

Default GSXR 750 DS?

Thanks for the input Major. I was talking ot my brother and he gave me an old 1000 Kawi 78 or 9 I believe. I know it wont have the cool factor of a newer crotch rocket, any body has any experience with these engines? No fuel injection its carburated but Ive heard and seen it run and its a screamer. Mite be easier on me because theres alot less wiring involved. Just an idea, call me out if Im going to be wwasting my time. Thanks guys.

Looked it up and the thing has 86 hp at 8000 rpm and 61 ft lbs at 6500 rpm. Kind of wimpy I guess.
