Need help on fixing a rim
#1
I bent a rim the other day..but not too bad. My tire does not want to hold air and i now that it has something o do with the beat up rim because i tested it with soapy water and that is where the air seems to be coming out of. Just wondering if it is an easy fix or if im going to half to buy 1 new rim?

My buddy rolled a rim bead last weekend and his tire went flat immediately. We were 10 miles away from the trucks and were able to repair the flat on scene.
The rim bead was BADLY bent after encountering a hidden stump. We removed the rim, placed it flat on the ground and hammered it back into shape with a block of wood and the flat end of a hatchet hammer he had in his gear box.
Once the rim was re-shaped, I used the open end curve of his 17mm wrench to form up the outer edge of the rim lip and aired it up via mini-compressor.
We bolted 'er back up and finished the ride we were on... round trip after the trail side fix was 70 miles.
His tire still holds air, does not shake, shimmy or otherwise ride different than new. Sand out the impact marks and paint it... no new rim needed.
Bottom line, it all depends on how you hit it.
