Well, at least I'm not the old man any more....
maxxedouty, I like Coos Bay, that must be nice to be that close to the dunes. My wife would like to live in that area.
How is the riding out from Horsfall Beach campground? I know there are no hookups, but we are thinking about just camping there since the ocean is so close. I rode out from there one time, but it was just the kids and me so I did not get to see much.

Stir, if you like to be close to the beach, Horsfall beach camping access is a place you might like. You are a ways from the dunes how ever. You can ride on the beach from horsfall about 7-8 mi then take a sand road about 3 mi to spinrell dunes, then you can ride the dunes back if you know the way. There is another set of dunes that you can access also, they are from boxcar to hauser rd.all dunes are accessable if you know the way. If i ride boxcar to spinrell I can expect to be at 30 - 40 mi's, depends on how much trail riding you like to do.

Stir,i'm at Coos Bay Or.I can ride the dunes as much as i like.Thats why I have two quads, if I start getting burned out on one then I ride the other one for awhile.</end quote></div>
If you guys make it up this way give me a holler and I will see if I can meet up with you guys and give you a guided tour of the dunes here at cs/bay, first time out it can be a little confusing about which way to go. Theres lots of good riding here for everybody. The hills arent to steep, the best one is called waterboard and there is trails to ride also, slides or fingers to go down, some of them can be a challenge, caution should prevail. To go from one end to the other can take about 3 hrs if you do some playing around. At spinreel there is an atv rental that has sodas and such if they are open.

I think everyone's impression was they would get the DS with the engine pretty much maxed out in terms of power from the factory....that won't happen with any manufacturer because they would sacrifice long term durability the general public would be happy with in order to satisfy the power needers out there.
Case in point: With a slip on and a programmer as the only engine mods, Josh Frederick won his first race on it up at Straddline WORCS race in the mud, in conditions that are less than ideal for a sporty.
Doug Eichner had his prepped Outlaw 525 IRS (I hear same, pipe and programmer) for him but the benefit of the IRS in those condidions, everyone said that was the ideal setup.
Josh won that race with an internally stock motor giving up 75cc to Doug. Not real bad. Both are great motors.
Now, I will say that the DS responds very well to mods from what I hear....that head flows real well, and when you start to up the compression, flow those big heads and get some added fuel and air in there, you will have 60hp for your race motor no problem.
Once all the pipes and programmers come out you'll see that not only will you get between 41-45 hp, but the power will be real spread out....the stock motor lives in the upper RPM's and during testing I heard that when they played with the motor, they built up good bottom and midrange and didn't sacrifice on the top.
As for handling, it's all subjective, but you need to consider this....we have lived since the dawn of quads, with a poor steering setup and horrible geometry. Anyone with a solid knowlege about how a front end should work will agree. The difference between riding a DS and any other quad is the difference between riding any 450 and then riding with one using wheel spacers....we all warn people off front end spacers, but we are all used to riding quads with that type of geometry, so we are used to it.
Once people put in alot of seat time on one, then try to ride a "traditional" 450...they will be shocked how bad the geometry is.

Max,
I saw your Renegade had some stuff in your signature, about the same additions as my Outlaw. I just bought the Outlaw 525 IRS this week and have very limited time on the seat. I do know it killed my friends YFZ450 and it feels at least as fast as my RWR DS. I know enough about motors and thrust to weight ratios to assume you 734 at around 380lbs will beat a 510 cc at 395lbs.
