I'm pretty sure the Vortex is, don't know about the other's, but I would think they are. Also keep in mind that the Big Gun is made by Procomm for Big Gun.

Had a buddy that bought a Big gun from Rocky Mountain - would even start. They did replace it under warranty. New one worked like a champ.

big gun is made by procom like stated (If I remember correctly it was procom that stole the curves from big gun because they were producing the CDI units for them??)

The only safe ones I know of are the woods box and the vortex

well i never had problems with the bike until now. its always been hard to start and sometimes slams when it did not start. i get worried about the cdi is that the problem who knows not even the dealer. its under the bombardier warranty only because i bought a three year when we bough the ds.

its $1200-1500 in damage on a machine with low hours and no real hard riding.

do all of you run vortex, rwr, or big gun cdis? do they protect agains sprag gear failure?

thanks Tim

Mr Seadoo,
I am on my 2nd DS because the first one did exactly what yours did. I made the mistake of putting the Procomm CDI on min and thats when the problem started. When the shop fixed mine for $800 they had to change the oil 3 times just to get all the metal fragments out of the crank and they couldn't guaranty it didn't do additional internal damage. At that point I decided I didn't trust the bike so I sold it and bought another one. The new one has the RWR CDI and now a stage II kit and is awesome.

I forgot to say, i have been running a Woods box for over 6 years now - no problem. The box did start to act up after 3 years (would not rev clean) and they replaced it under warranrty. Can't ask for a better product and someone that will stand behind after 3 years.

I have the Big gun, and from what I have heard they have their own timing on it with less initial advance.... I can't remember where I heard that but it was from a couple of reliable sources here on Connection.

I waited a year before I finally trusted another CDI and bought the woods. I talked to RWR on the phone and they re assured me that the DS 650 motor is strong enough to handle a few blown shifts ith no rev limiter. I love the act that I can rev it to 8500 rpm and it doesn't cut out. The cams and titanium springs I put in make awesome power between 6 and 8ooo rpm so I really noticed a difference with the RWR cdi. I strongly recommend it!
PS I haven't blown a sift since I put in the CDI so maybe it has forced me to pay attention whn I shift
