2004 BajaX worth?
#2
We've addressed this previously but it all boils down to what they are worth to us vs. what they are worth to a potential buyer. If you watch Craigslist, CycleTrader, and even eBay you will see the same ones listed over and over if they are not priced below the $2500 mark. The ones that actually sell go from $1800 to $2800, on occasion a little higher. No way in Hades would I let one of the two that I currently own go for that. I have sold two of them in that range but that was a couple of years ago during a 7 month period of unemployment. Never again...
Just for comparison sake, Chapparal has two of the 07 X models, brand new, for $4199. When you can get them from a dealer for that, why buy used. Several other dealers are unloading new ones on eBay also for well below the $5K mark. All depends on how bad you want to rid yourself of it. Even here in SoCal, the sand toy capital of the world, you can get 05 and 06 models for less than $3K. Sad but true. I'm hawking a couple right now myself, maybe a Christmas surprise for myself!

The thing that gets frustrating is all the parts that you invest into your quad and then just throw it out the window when you sell it. When I see DS's up for sale they are usually just stock or a pipe with just the set of wheels and tires for dirt.
I have asked myself many times if I should just put it all back to stock and sell my parts and dune tires separate.
It blows, I have invested 6k (super deal at the time) in just the DS to begin with and then all my mods and parts....lets just lie and say only 2k more to make me feel a tiny bit better about my loss. To just let it go is stupid. I would rather keep it as a backup if my rail has downtime.

I got luck in buying a used DS with less than 50 hours on it, so now that I'm finished with my build I'm about where a new stock one costs. That being said I still could not get out of it what I have into it.
Seems like the only mods that really add value is the 1000cc+ conversions.

Well trying to sell it, especially on ebay, people are only willing to buy it if they get a steal, i watch ebay for that reason, its how i got my '03, the '02 Baja with the '04 Baja X, and the '01 DS, all on ebay, all for CHEAP! But trying to sell is all about timing, as ebay as another example, i saw a '03 Baja go for $3400 that was in mint condition, i put my '02 Baja that i got on ebay up and it only went for $2800 and that guy backed out, only serious bidder was at $2600, luckily i found someone that wanted my '01 and '02 so i sold a package deal. Basically what i've learned is that any DS (depending on condition) is worth at least $2500, b/c thats your base price for parting out the whole machine, hell you can sell the stock motor BARE for almost 1k, but once you start adding mods, your in a lot of $ but when it comes to sale time those dollars dont count for much if anything at all. If i wanted to sell MY BABY - '02 Baja with the fuel injection, i would not be happy with anything under like $6k lol, since theres over like 10k invested over all 6 years i've had 'er, but i know i would never see that money if i tryed to sell 'er, more like $3k and thats it, its a sad price we pay, but its like that with all toys

I'm finding the same thing, now that I have to make room I also know that I'm not going to get the money back out of my DS. The other thing I have seen is a friend of mine sold his YFZ that was stock, at first he thought he could get $6000 for it. But after 3 months of no bites he dropped the price down to $4000 and sold it. Just like when we sold Tracy's Pred, it seems no one wants em cause they are oddballs, until ya start riding and people find hey there not so bad.
