Default Help keeping her cool.....

I have a 2000 DS650 that I don't ride that often, unfortunely! Anyway, I rode this past Sunday and every time we stop, I try to leave my key on due to the fan still running. I have a brand new battery that I keep on a charger (since I don't ride too much) and keeping my key on killed the battery once. I had to push start her, which sucks since I have a new $94 YUASA battery in her! I believe I need a better water pump. Would that be acurate?? I used to go to On Dunes Performance and they had a better water pump for the DS, but it seems they have closed down.

Is this what I need? Where can I get a better water pump from?

Thanks.

Steve

i don't think you need a new pump i'd look at the carb and jetting, is your system charging?

I've had the DS about 3yrs now and it's always ran this way. I put an end cap on it and put the correct jet that was suggested with the end cap. As far as I know it's charging, I know that's not a good answer. Is there an easy way to tell if it's charging?

What makes you think that it's the carb and jetting?

if it is running lean it will heat up, what size jet is in it, seems it should be 180-185, plus if it sits a lot it might be clogging a jet size smaller making it very lean.

It has the On Dunes end cap, the one with the 14 supertrapp discs. I bought the suggested jet size and installed it, not sure what size it is without checking.

Sandman is on the rite track. If your jetting is to lean no matter what you do your motor will run hot and overheat. Other than that make sure your radiator is flowing correctly and your thermostate is opening properly. Most likly it is the jetting. Does your bike ever backfire when you let off the gas at full throttle?

My bike has not backfired in a long time. When I installed the end cap and new jet, the old jet that I took out was actually bigger than the one I was putting in. The one I bought was one or two sizes bigger than stock, so the one that was in there was not stock. The mods I have are the end cap, k&N filter, and big gun rev box. Do you have a recommended jet size I should be using?

Minnimum I would start with three sizes over stock and see how it runs and how cool it runs.

Do you happen to know what stock jet size is for a 00'? Is it the same for all years?
