This thread has the same tune as the old DS450 a few years ago. :-) I hope it is so because I'm looking hard for the best one for me to have in the stable by spring. If and when they do come out with one It will probably cost us. :-(

Bill. . . look at you gettin' all TPR on us!
I asked my local dealer about this last week and he hadn't heard about anything close to release. They had a prototype or something but, not further than that. BUT - I wouldn't hold my breath to this info either.
The 800 would be an awesome powerplant for a side-by-side.
According to my dealer, they thought the SxS market was going to fade out and die. They saw it as a fad. . . yeh right!!!
If BRP would only get off their butts they could sell more product than they could shake a stick at.
The DS650 could be re-born and this SxS could bring people in the door.
Which would you rather own? Polaris or BRP? The Rhino has their loyal Yamaha fan base but, the twin cylinder engine SxS's are killing them in the dunes, etc.
I hope you are right Bill!

I think Can-Am was betting on their 2 seater tandems being a competitor against the side-by-sides but they seriously misjudged the market and the customer base. It's a great concept but they're not a competitor for a side-by-side. While the Can-Am 2 up tandems were great for girlfriends, wives, perhaps kids and just for a more stable and roomy machine they had drawbacks.
Dudes were simply not big on having their buddy hopping on the back of their ATV nor were other dudes really enthused about riding backseat on one. While a guy with a side-by-side wouldn't think twice about having his buddy jump in and ride down the trail or through the timber or back to deer camp you just wouldn't do the same thing with a 2 up outty. To be blunt, dudes have no interest in riding on the b*tch seat.
They've got a fairly easy engineering task to build a side-by-side but changing the company inertia took some time I would imagine. They have the drive train pretty much sorted out with their 800 Outties. Engineering the rest wouldn't be too taxing especially since they have so many competitors now defining and segmenting the market. They've already done a good deal of the hard work for you both on the engineering and marketing side.
In any event I would guess their side-by-side entry to be a couple of years away. I'd like to think different but given the internal corporate momentum with the tandems and the engineering and manufacturing lead time needed I just don't see them getting one out before then.

What about that big boy, a 1000cc like a v-ducati or aprilia and push button transmission?
