I think the rule just states just in frame

 

I believe that Pipelayer is correct. I had to move to an in-frame open exhaust. It was the HPR proto-type. Actually, the last race I had the Ninja exhaust - I think...

I actually think it states "In-frame with Muffler". Problem is that there is no common definition for "Muffler". A reverse megaphone is actually giving some type of muffle. How much is a different story all together.

Pipelayer, you still coming. I just checked in with my lovely Wife and gave her the dates. I'm solid on the deal and will be freshening up the Black Bus next weekend. For those that have asked, I'm probably going to be taking my Day Trailer (enclosed) and going for Saturday, maybe overnight Friday and Saturday. Not quite sure. I might even do a Saturday w/sleeping over until Sunday. I'll have my Sand Car out with me. Rhino will be staying home.

Got the Raptor on the Dyno last night, can't wait to see how she does. Not much compared to the old days but, still love to ride.

BigDaddy - We are going to have to have a Rail Gathering! Enough of us DS guys with them now a days. I have to be honest though. . . I've toyed with selling the rail as I just love the quads and most in my group ride the quads. Then I go out and look at it and tell myself no. . . then I think, I could sell it and get a RZR and pocket some change and still have something a little different. . . then I see how much people are spending on the aftermarket and think I would be just as stupid. . . (Come-on - spending $10k+ in upgrades so you've got over $20k into a RZR?!?! - I don't have that much more into my rail and it will run circles around a RZR. . . Then I get the itch for a change again. . . I think it is a disease. . . always looking at something different.

Anyways, hope the DS's show up in force for another race. I'm getting the feeling they are dying off quickly. . . would be nice to see them still around.

Yea Dune, I know what you are saying about the side-x-sides. I've seen some of them with more into them than my car. I've got a Big 5 Funco and there is no comparison between that and my rhino. In fact, as soon as I get into the rhino after a sand car ride, I think something is wrong with the motor. Just doesn't have the power or a fraction of the abilities. I'm keeping both for now, but have thought a couple times about selling the rhino. I spend so much time in the car that the rhino becomes a camp mule. Kids like it.... so I guess it stays. Yea, my conversion was the cats meow, but the dunes are just so rough and have become so crazy/dangerous. I'd much rather be in my car. Just have to be careful in my car!
As far as the DS's dying off... I think you are right. The new Raptor has pretty much destroyed the DS in every arena. Weight, power, looks imo.

I hope they produce something that will compete, but who knows.

Either way, I'll take my car any day of the week and twice on sunday. Speaking of Sunday, I'll be at Dumont this sunday flying around the sandbox.

 

Damn Mike, I hope you are getting the bug something serious. I've talked via PM with several people whom I really trust their opinions and going with my gut feeling you were going to be invited to build the best true duner motor out there. Then it seemed like you lost your passion so I shelved the thought and tried to track down Preacher. No luck there either so I had kind of given up hope. Maybe some wins on your other motor will cure the ill.
We should talk...

 

Hey Big D we have talked to the guy you sold your conversion to on another forum. He isn't the smartest tool in the shed he even said he is gonna start wearing a helmet even though he isn't really a helmet kind of guy. But it scared him enough to wear one. Duh you think....

He really likes it alot and brags it up so we brag you up and your abilities. I am glad you like your car they are nice.

 

the dying of the ds is inevitably in BRP's hands the ds is still the best running while the raptor is a tad faster out of the box.But that changes with very few mods.Its the total package that make the ds so great and no the raptor still hurts in the comfort and suspension area.Alls BRP would have to do is put the ds motor in the new frame system and the game will be on again if they do great if they don't cool.but BRP is quickley become the the company full of suprises.so you never know.

 

I would love to see that. I would buy one for sure and I think allot of people would be in line to get one. especially if it was a 700 or bigger and light oh here I go dreaming again Sorry :0)

 

Yea, the guy that bought the conversion is a nice guy... but I'm not sure who buys something like that and isn't really sharp on the mechanical side. I built that bike to be something that could be ridden like it was from the factory. that's what the guy got. I'm glad he's happy, but him not wearing a helmet scares me. On the bill of sale, I had him sign his life away about me not being responsible for his riding choices or possible events. I also stated in the bill of sale that the operation of the vehicle could lead to death. Those things are that fast. And to have that kind of speed and be able to dune it or trail ride is scary.
Hope he uses his head. As far as being sharp..... maybe he's really good/smart at other things besides motorsports.
AZ, I'm not sure I completely agree with you on the Yami vs. DS, but I do believe that the DS is the most comfortable ride in the barn. But BRP is going to need more than just a different frame. EFI, new geometry, new power to weight specs, new look, I think new motor etc. etc.
Either way, it's clear that the new Rappy is the way to go. For the mass majority. Doesn't mean that the DS is bad, just DATED.

Ace, I'm not sure what the future holds. I've had two requests in the last month to build more DS motors. Three requests to build conversions, and at least two requests to build a couple of motors for sand cars. I've turned all but one down based on the amount of time I have. I just don't have it. I'm starting to do more now, because one of the teams that I coach season is coming to an end. I'm going to give the black bus a touch up and then we'll have to see where I'm at. Parts is a completely different subject. If Eric can get parts, you might have a pretty nice little motor. I'm sure there is more out there, but I've had sketchy luck with other parts from other sources.

I'M IN NO WAY, BASHING OTHERS. I'M JUST SPEAKING FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. PLEASE DON'T PM OR EMAIL ME TO TELL ME THAT I'M WRONG. JUST A PERSONAL PREFERENCE.

Ace, you coming out to the race??? love to see ya bud. Speaking of "bud", I'll see if I can pull him (BUD) out to the races as well. Maybe the three of us (Bud, his Son and myself) can put on a show with his conversions. They are something to see. I believe that the three of us can probably have our own races!!!!!
