What type of CDI do you have? Mine had a terrible bog/hesitation at 3/4 to full throttle, and it turned out to be my Dynatek CDI. I thought it was a jetting problem to so I rejetted until I was ready to throw my carb away and then I finally figured out it was the CDI.

Did you rejet after removing the airbox. Sounds like you are lean... with no airbox I was at a 200 main. Backfire out the carb sounds lean to me.
