Take the $800 savings and put it towards a Woods racing stage one kit.

I to had the option of either 2000 or 2001. I took the 2000 with a savings of $500.00. As part of the deal I had the dealer do the upgrade in the carb and give me the new oil filter cover and one new filter. I also made them throw in the first service at no charge. I've been real happy with the bike.

I have both a 2000 shop manual and parts catalog as well as the 2001 versions. Here are some of the differences I see:

New parts:

1) different magnetic cap on bottom of oil tank
2) steering stem washer
3) Hose clamp on crankcase vent line at airbox
4) clamp at oil tank for vent line
5) emissions label under seat
6) right and left foot protectors
7) front bumper protector plate
8) engine skid plate
9) rear sub frame
10) left and right tab locks around ball joint area
11) metal chain guard at countershart/case saver
12) oil tank
13) oil vent line hose adapter
14) adapter where oil line enters engine
15) oil vent hose between oil tank and crankcase
16) larger splash guard around main jet in carb
17) left and right airbox snorkles
18) plastic coolant tank
19) wiring harness assembly
20) longer oil filter
21) oil filter cover
22) oil pressure switch
23) rubber sleeve for shift lever now available
24) coolant hose clamps on hose between pump and cylinder
25) #45 starter jet (up from #32.5 on the 2000 model)
26) stiffer carb spring

(The carb assembly is different due to internal parts I guess)

(The engine assembly is different, not sure why)

Different Specs:

1) toe out is .102" (same as 2000 model spec, but may not have been in spec when assembled on 2000 models)

2) rear shock absorber bolt has lower torque spec (63ft-lbs). Some of us have had squeaking problems.

3) updated assembly and test procedures - rear axle lock nut!!! ball joints!!! etc.

Who knows what else they could of changed without telling us!

tntjerry; around baldwin there is mostly open sugarcane areas with some trails. I also ride in St. Martinville with some friends. Three Banshees, two 400exs, & a Kodiak. Forest Hills is the place to ride. That red dirt is a pain in the a**. Have you gotten your DS650 yet?

Don't buy the 2000 parts catalog, buy the 2001 version. The 2001 version lists part numbers for both years, and has corrections to bad/wrong part numbers that existed in the 2000 version. The part number is 704 300 070. The dealer can order one for you for around $10 or he may give you one for free.
