Default 2001 ds 650

I just bought this quad, this is what the owner said it had done to it,2001 Ds650 with about 10 hrs on complete rebuild.. Silver vein powder coated frame red powder coated swing arm and a-arms. Stage 3 ron woods racing kit. which includes:twist throttle, 45 mm carb and 45 mm ported intake, Ron woods cdi, cp 11.5:1 high compression piston, new rod and crank, dual valve springs with titanium retainers and new valve seats, all new gasket, .395 web racing cams. and white brothers e series racing pipe. also has steel heal guards, alba racing graphics and gripper seat, fly handle bars, asr +1 a arms. hole shot tires, super pump water pump.It has a completely open air box with a kn filter directly on the carb,is this right, the kn just keeps falling off, this is my 1st experience with bombardier,so Im a little green with these machines.how well should it run with these mods

That thing should haul the mail and more. If it's not there might be some serious issues to work out. Also I would look for a stock air intake snorkel tube, it will run much better with it on and will not fall off like the filter is now. All I can say is I'm jealous of your new ride man, congrats. What did you pay for it?

Looks to me like the guy that sold it to you put higher gearing on it. I would go with a 15tooth front sprocket and you should kill that TRX through all the gears. I checked out the ad in racingjunk, Sweet looking ride. I would go on the garage thread and put down that you need a stock intake snorkel tube and you should be able to find one. It's bad news when air filters start falling off.

Nice acquisition there speedfreak. Unless you are like the majority of us DS owners and pushing upwards of 250 lbs and the jockey on the 450 was a buck forty five then with all of the mods that you have listed you should have waxed his ****. This direct mount filter issue has been covered numerous times in the past and I recall the consensus was that it is more prohibitive than beneficial. The snorkel tube serves a purpose and should be restored. Depending on where you ride you may be able to do without any airbox. Most of us West coast folks run sans airbox.
15/42 gearing will get you some real good holeshots and hold your lead on those little sissy bikes. Are you running 22" rears?

There is a brand new rear shock in the garage section that I'm sure would go for a good price. PM the owner.

I'm running a direct mount and like it better, but that's for my build. One thing you have to do if you run a direct mount is cut the pan of your seat so it does not hit the filter. I bet that is what is giving you fits.

The stock carb absolutely runs better with the stock tube as does the Lectrons, but not so much the TMs.

With the direct mount on a TM you give up some below 6,000 RPM but gain from there up.
