At 3K feet your probably OK with the 165. YOu can fatten up the midrange (DS likes a lot of fuel in the midrange) by adjusting the needle DOWN one clip position. It is located on the top of the carb underneath the diaphram cover. YOu will want to get a set of needle nose pliers to move the clip and make sure you dont loose the little spring or washers that is in there when removing. Its pretty simple just go slow when removing. How does it run now that you fixed the intake?

If its lean in the midrange (which I suspect) then fattening it up will help mid range torque. Carb adjustments are all about trial and error.... You'll never know until you try.

If you haven't already read through "OMR stock carb mod" summary thread I highly recommend.

With a 4 stroke (Especially on the DS), small changes can make a very big difference.
Drop the clip down 1 notch (Raising the needle) like was suggested above. You can absolutely try another notch if you want, but make the changes 1 at a time and then test ride it.
Adjust your pilot air screw to 2 - 2 1/4 turns (OMR, what about air screw vs. altitude?). The pilot screw is accessable from outside the carb - It is underneath and located toward the front of the carb (In front of the float bowl).
