They sell just fine. Had a friend pick one up a couple of weeks back for $1400. Nice sell if you ask me! The market for all toys right now is in the buyers court. Even out here in the sand toy capital of the world (SoCal) they are selling on a weekly basis for $1800-2400 depending on the year model. I picked up an 03 in 04 for $2500 and it looked showroom new. Market has definitely taken a dive since then.
Lots of folks tearing them down and parting them out due to the low resale value, and lots of others are picking up rolling chassis to do conversions on. Just so much damn work to disassemble.
We're proud of our machines but you have to be realistic. Chaparral had two 07 models on the showroom floor for $4199 each. When you can get them from the dealer for that you can't expect more than $2000-3000 from the used market.

if you look at a book value on them they are normal, just like any ATV, but as far as trade in values, dealers have a hard time gettin them sold, ppl want 450s or 400s, so dealers wont give u much cause they sit in their lot... so they say. Like Ace said there is a lot more $ in parting them out, but it is sad to see a DS go like that, rather see someone riding it and enjoying it since they are such nice machines, but i guess its just as important to us die hard DS guys to keep ours runnin/lookin good so we need the parts, which makes up for tearin 'er down. One place easy to sell a DS to is Canada, they dont have many up there surprisingly enough, i have a guy up there i've sold 2 to cause i get a great price for them since the Canadian dollar is worth more right now and hes saves money, win win situation. Like you i was going to trade in 2 DS's in for a Renegade 500, the guy at the dealership said he'd only give me $1200 for my black/orange powdercoated Baja, i scratched that idea real quick!!! lol

Yep, what those two just said. Everybody wants a 450, not a heavy, slow, fat, pig of a DS. I dropped $5,000 into mine 2 yrs ago. Will i get it back, probably not. At the time it was money well spent and even now that same bike is beatin most 450's, but it is not a drag bike. I dune the crap out of this thing and it's totally reliable. BUT, it's still a DS, when you even mention the model to most people they instantly loose interest. Hence the reason you can get em cheap anymore, those that are wanting to sell just want out from under it cause they can't sell em for what's in em. On the other hand if you take a 450 and do the same thing to it you can sell it for what it was new BECAUSE it is a 450. Thats what is popular right now.

Sad but true... I will keep my DS forever.... I finally had some seat on my 450 and nothing like a big bore DS. I can't wait till my project is done.

Wow! That's alot. Where are you located? Gotta be Canada! Would'nt have gotten $3000 out here in Cali, and that's with dune season right around the corner. You'll be happy with her no matter what you paid so enjoy the ride to the fullest.

There is a dealer up here in North California advertising them for $4,495 new in Reedly... I think. Saw the add last week. Makes it hard to sell them for much when they are new for that price.

Yes, I got mine for VERY low price, but honestly, in So Cal, they are advertised for anywhere from 2200 to 3500... one guy has his for 10,000, and another has one with a disassembled motor for 1200.

They are just not popular bikes, like my KXF 700, they appeal to a limited market.
