What other motorcycles use the Rotax engine? Do you think it could be used as a direct replacement on the DS?

Thanks for your help.

The DS650 engine is the same as the BMW F650 Funduro motor.

Does the BMW F650 Funduro have the same rev limiter as the DS or does it have a higher rev limit and are they interchangable? If there is a higher rev limit how much higher is it?

ATK also used the Rotax engines. Several different ones. They have one 4-stroke model, and its a 650. A couple of years ago, they came out with a 650 4 stroke quad. It cost $12,000. The reason was ATK doesn't build anything but the basic frame. Then they purchase the best aftermarket parts and use them to build the rest. The motorcycles aren't the best in the world when them arrive though. The trannys are very notchy, and the engines can't keep up with the Jap bikes as far as power output. But with a little work, they are really good performers and can hang with them all. Their designs are a little dated too.

The BMW F650 CDI box has no rev limit and runs $350 new.

You can run an aftermarket CDI on the DS.

The F650 has a 5 valve head, dual carbs, and must have a differnt primary reduction ratio than the DS650 motor.

Yes as far as I know the F650 rev box will work. I've heard of one guy that was running one. Alba said they have them to sell.

Don't forget that the woods rev box has 4 degrees of ignition advance at the lowend and eliminates the retard at 6500 RPM, allowing the motor to rev more freely. The PAMI box should be similar to the woods box. The F650 CDI may still have the retard at upper RPMs.
