Sorry if these types of threads have been done to death,but I'm looking at these 3 bikes as possible additions to my Yamaha 450 Wolverine.I love a lot of the features of the Wolverine,like the auto trans and 4X4,but I bought it to use as a semi utility bike for the desert.I have it outfitted with racks ,a winch,and skid plates for that type of use.Now I want to pick up something FAST.Especially since my 450 will only do about 50 on a long straight away.I go riding with my friends,and get my *** kicked by 200 Blasters and 350 Warriors.I want something that will at least make a good showing.especially going all out on terrain like a dry lake.I'm leaning towards a later model DS,hopefully a Baja,But I've heard some things about the Raptor and the KFX as well.I see a lot of you either have several bikes or have ridden 2 or even all 3 of these bikes,and was just wondering if the DS would be the best choice.I know I'd probably get 3 different answers to this if I posted it in the Kawi and Yamaha forums as well,but I really wanted to get opinions from DS owners.Thanks

 

Well since this is the Can-Am thred you know what kinda answers you are going to get so I guess as you can see you know what my vote would be for! None are going to be bad quads but I truly belive I have the best allaround quad made!

 

Raptor 700 IMO hands down above the KFX700, they are just a warmed over utility with no racks.......

But the DS650 I cannot say I've never ridden one.....

Either way I would toss the KFX700 right out of the mix, it is barely a real sport machine. CVT, shaft drive, big and heavy, that spells Ute to me..........

 

I'm about a year now on my Raptor 700. I used to have a DS650.

The DS is a great desert bike that you can ride all day long without fatigue.

The Raptor 700 is much more nimble, has much better power with a 3-mod and is much less to mod. I don't like the 660 Raptor at all and do NOT recommend that bike. The Raptor 700 has a good ride but, the lighter weight doesn't make it as soft of a ride as the DS.

 

I will give a far comparision have rode all 3 of these kfx my wife has this bike i love it the full automatic for the lazyness in me is great seating is comfortable with white brothers or any other exhaust this bike sounds awesome no other mods she will not let me touch it ?? if u ride whoops no travel in the rear but does pull up to the top quickly stock form modded and man i mean i want to do it so bad they r quicker. 700 raptor buddy has this one good bike efi mod with exhaust tip removed the bike pulled good not snappy just all pull comfortable ride but with out a bunch of mods 450s that are modded will hang with it he did alot of mods to walk from me in straight line runs every thing esle on this bike is great seat comfort suspension its a pretty good bike ok now for the final oohh yes the DS650 this bike i think is a really good bike good comfort not alot of hp stock a omr carb mod air filter to carb 9 disc cdi and this thing walks all over my 450 very easily and this is less mods than the raptor and the suspension is the greatest ive ever rode stock form the only draw back over the other 2 is there is no reverse and for its weight this would be nice to have in tight spots any of your choice would be a good one all run about same speed stock yama maybe a little slower hits rev limit to quick on top i hope this helps

 

OHH YA the other one the honda 700xx have nt rode it but no one has them if you want to be different!

 

Thanks for all your replies.I Think it will come down to the DS or the Raptor.I agree with the opinion that the KFX is more of a UT quad without a lot of UT features.I had also did enough research to know the Raptor 700 is superior to the older 660's.I think either that or the DS will be hard to go wrong with.THanks again.

 

i noticed your name was biggjake...if your a bigger guy like me, i would def. reccomend the DS!!! im about 6'6" 250, and i fit pretty good on the ds. when i sat on the raptor 700 it felt smaller...[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img] but i bet u can bust off some nasty wheelies on a raptor!!![img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

I have Raptor 700 and owned a DS650 (730) and my Raptor is a far better machine in most situations. I am 6"5 245

 

I've never ridden a raptor 700 but from what I've heard, its the best all-around quad. I have, however, ridden a 2001 DS and its fast as hell! Speed is not an issue with this quad and neither is the comfort. It's heavy (about 470 lbs dry) but I think the speed and power makes up for that. Also, if you're a heavy guy or tall, you'll find that its great. I'm 6'1" and 150lbs (I know, tall skinny) and I felt right at home with this quad. I'm actually considering getting one myself. If I could, though, I would get myself a new(er) Raptor 700r.
