New With ds problems
#1
hey new to the forum have used it and need some help.
I have a 2000 DS650 pretty much stock and has run good till recently. i cant start it when cold i takes like 45 min and a battery charger to get it goin. so ive got a new battery cleaned the carb and put in new needle and seat and all stock adjustments. this is where the problem starts i was going to check my valve adjustment and noticed my timing chain was lose...real lose. so its probly outa time and thats the reason it has a hard time starting, so my question is where can i get a timing chain adjuster cause mines crap ive checked.
p.s. ive searched the past topics and it wasnt working, also for what ever reason the bike runs fine once its runing.
thanks Paul

if your old one has scored the lining you might want to get the machanical one from ron wood's just to be safe , you just have to check it now and again. you should also look at the timing chain, just to be sure

Have a close look at the timing chain and make sure you are looking at it at TDC. The chain will get a little loose if the adjuster is not working - it is primed with oil.
It does sound like the valves need to be adjusted if its hard to start cold and it starts ok warm.

Get your piston to TDC, and reset your cams. Check your valve clearence, and get that right. You should be able to compress the tensioner with your hand, if it is stuck shut, or will not compress you need a new one. Put everything back together, and you should be good to go!!!

if your timing chain is lose , reguardless of the valves, the tensioner need's replaced, the chain should be, but if when you install the new tensioner remove the top cover and make sure there isn't any play, if there is , replace the chain,
as long as you are giving it gas the chain is tight between the crank and cam's but would imagine when you let off it sputters, while you have the top cover off i would check the valves, if it start's at all , i would assune the chain hasn
't jumped , but you should check it also while you are there. chang your oil and filter, the chain can jump around and tear the alum if it has been run long . better safe than sorry
