Popping Wheelies DS650
#1
Quick question, while popping wheelies the ds650 flutters out. It runs excellent except while riding wheelies. It just begins to cut out. Just curious if it might be jets, or float, or something else. Thanks.

If I'm not in the air from a jump, I'm on the back wheels. Just my nature. But its hard/annoying to ride wheelies when the carb flutters and pops. The other thing my carb does if drips gas from the bottom of the bowl if you don't shut the gas valve off at night. So that might be the issue with the fluttering as well, but still yet don't know the proper fix for that either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a float being stuck issue. If it sat for awhile with fuel in the bowl I'd tear the carb down and give it a good scrubbing.

Usually, if the float is stuck, it will run a steady stream of fuel out of the bottom of the bowl.. I'm pretty sure its his needle & seat. I've had the same problem with 3 of my DS's. I tried cleaning the needle & seat. Sometimes it will fix the problem for a little while, but the right way to fix it, is to replace the needle & seat. Yes. Its not shutting off the flow of fuel into the bowl, so it is running out of the overflow. Thats why it is dripping out of the bottom of the bowl. It will still run, but the float level (the level of the fuel inside the bowl) is way too high. This causes the engine to run too rich. If you go try to ride some wheelies so it will run like crap, then shut it right off & check the spark plug, it will probably be wet & black.

I'll ride it again on Wednesday and check the plug then. I had this problem with the previous carb, so I purchased another one (used). Didn't leak for about 3 months then started. Got to where it was running real boggy so I pulled the air box lid off and it started running a lot better. My friend bought a 03 DS650 yesterday and his is unbelievably more responsive than mine. But hes running a K&N and aftermarket pipe, and is probably jetted. I just want mine to run without having a bog. Stock is fast enough for me, just haven't got the air/fuel mixture right seems like. But if it the carb is flooding then it would require more air in order to run properly.
