where to find the best deals?
#1
Im thinking of buying either a Honda 400EX or a DS650, and since i live in Mexico, I have to pay 20% in import taxes, so i need a great deal on either a new bike or a good used one.
If anyone knows where i can get a good deal, let me know. Even better if it is in Texas or somewhere close to the border(eastern border, that is.)

thing is, the NAFTA deal is progressive. So, import taxes get maller over the years. i think we will be ta free till 2012 something like that.As of now, import taxes for a quad built either in the US or Canada are 19% (4% import and 15% tax) and for a Japanese like a Raptor 53% ( 38%import 15%tax ) So there is quite a difference.
Secondly, we do have dealers, but they really cash in. A 400EX goes for $8500 and a DS650 for $11000, so, obviously, i'm importing. It's the same deal as in cars. You can buy a MB ML430 for $50,000, but in mexico, it's closer to $95,000. Quite a difference.
Third, in order to have an american vehicle with american plates permanently in mexico, you have to be a US citicen, witch I'm not. And anyway, that only applies for cars.

I am a Mexican, I live in Mexico. I put the TX in my profile because i had to. There were no options other than US states, and you HAVE to specify a state in your profile, so, i just chose the closest one to Torreon, where I live.

I just had a though when www.traderonline.com was mentioned. Do you still have to pay the seriously high taxes when buying a used machine? If there is some kind of break on the taxes from that then look for used. There are countless instances of guys bringing home a DS650 or Raptor (this is how BOTH of my buddies got their Raptors) and when the wife finds out the price, an ad goes into the paper before the DMV even find out the poor guy brought it home. Too many guys live with their tail between their legs. I guess everyone in here has done a good enough job - we all got to keep our toys.

There is some kind of break. I still have to pay the same % in taxes. The brake is i don't pay the percentage as new
For example, if i buy a new quad, for say, $6500, i'd have to pay 19% of the $6500 or 53% if it were japanese.
But, if i get an invoice for less (it can't be much less, something like $800) then, I'd pay the 19% out of 5700.
But if i buy a used quad, for say 5000, i can say it cost me 3500 and pay the 19% out of that 3500
So it's quite a brake. Thing is, im nervious on getting someone elses problems, mut, on the other hand, these quads have only been on the market for at most 2 1/2 years, so they can't be that bad.
If you know of a good deal on a used DS, EX or Raptor, let me know, you might save me some big money
