F'ing Chain Roller
#11
I did the same as KELLY's300EX, the skate board wheel and 4 sealed bearings cost me a total of
$5.00 bucks and has worked great for several months. It has very little wear. My buddy cracked his case on his 2000 DS when his stock roller fragged.

tkeeler what's is there to know about it I know nothing about it myself . I used a 59mm wheel which is a fat one used for ramps but any skateboard wheel will work just use 2 bearings on both sides like I said in my post . Yes use the original bolt the skateboard bearings are 8mm inside diameter so just put it on the original bolt is 8 mm no mods at all like I said in my post 5 minute job ten bucks and it is much better than new.. Make sure you adjust your chain to specs with you sitting on the seat, that is prolly why it failed.

I kinda like the idea of that skate wheel trick but where the heck do you buy just one wheel?? I went looking yesterday and no one would sell just one wheel. A set of four was going to set me back $30.00 and on top of that I had to buy a pack of bearings for $18.00. And this was at the cheapest store I could find. If I did go this route at least I'd have four complete chain rollers hehe.

The place I went to said they sold the skateboard wheels in sets too but walked over to his drawer and pulled one out,in fact he had about fifty in there some oddball some used but they sold the bearings separately a dollar each. These kids change these wheels all the time . If you cannot find one I will send one to you complete with bearings just let me know.

Hey, thanks for the offer. I actually found a place last night that had exactly what you were talking about, a big box of spare wheels. They ended up giving me two wheels for free and only charged me for the bearings which were $12 for eight. This way I've got a spare. If anyone wants to know, I found two wheels that I think will suit our purposes fairly well. One is the Spitfire Hellcat and the other is called a Zorlac. The thing I like about each of these wheels is they have small groves around the wheel. This should give a slight advantage of keeping the chain on track. Also if you find some that are used, be very mindfull that they aren't tapered from heavy sliding. After you find your correct wheel then just put two bearings on each side and stick it on you stock bolt. It's funny that the bolt and the width between the tabs is a damn near perfect fit. When I mounted it up I tightened the nut until the wheel stopped moving freely then backed it off just enough so it would. And finally, if you do go this route, don't forget to adjust your chain after your done. I actually made a preload and chain adjustment after I was done just to make sure everything evened out. Well that's enough rambling for now. Thanks again for the suggestions and help guys.

Jimmie,
Yes it is the red one, I ride desert/forest and dunes in AZ. I bought the BigGun with the spark arrester. I think I like the Graydons power better but the spark arrester is important to me to ride in AZ. You can reach me at jetsandsurfer@aol.com if you are interested.
