Your barking up the wrong tree here, most of the guys are big bore enthusiast here. At one point I disliked the 450 crowd but A good weekend on my trx450 I am a fan of the light and quick. Rides totally different. I own a Raptor 700 now as well, and I just like my 450 more. I am disappointed with the motor of the new 450. I haven't ridden one but it's not much lighter and yes it is the bigger bore compared to the Honda 450R most of the power is sub par in the usable power range.

I hope Can Am returns to the big bore market. Honda did a "WTF" with thiers and Yamaha seems to be reaping the lionshare of the big bore market with the Raptor 700. I hear that Renegade 800 is a wild wild ride. Put something like that for us to cater the sport crowd.

I realize that in the Can Am world bigger is better...there's no replacement for displacement but.....lets look at the facts. The DS 450 in every way was designed to be light. Every way that is except the motor which leads me to believe that this chassis was originally designed with a much lighter motor and then had to decide to go the 450 route with time and money running out. So they end up with a fat motor in a chassis that wasn't designed for and you end up chasing issues after the fact.

Fast is not always heavy and that's my point. I'd bet 10 out of 10 racers and most riders would prefer a 280-300 pound quad with an equal power to weigh ratio over a fatter 450. You get less fatigued and ride harder for much longer.

That said, i loved racing the DS650 in the desert. It was the Cadillac.

When they announced the DS450 I watched it closely. I was thrilled to see Can AM enter this area of the sport market. However like you, I was disappointed with the motor. The power it makes it not out of this world and yes the 450 is light, but not by a quantum leap (20-30 pounds).

Suspension, handlebar height and placement also play factors in less wear on you as you ride hard, but yes a light bike that is easy to manuver makes it easier to get aggressive.

dont know bout u guys but my ds450 was running side by side with a ported/cam'ed/high comp piston yfz in 300ft sand drags on sat. and it dusted a kfx450 with cams and piston.

and mine is just piped and filtered, so its safe to say she puts out some power...

I agree man, a great motor with lot's of potential. Just needs some refining. Also needs a big brother. Same frame design with a light Big Bore motor.

go on youtube once and watch stupid people crash atvs. thats why we wont get a high horsepowered quad from the factory, too many retards would die...

the 450 was in the works for 7 years, in 2000 when they started the project it was ahead of its time!lol they are good at trying to perfect everything, but it comes at a cost that when the finally release it, its too late.
