OK guys!! new name old user!
This weekend we were prerrunning for a race down at baja,ds650,trx450r,trx450r,250r,450x(canam).After running about 40 miles into the prerrun,my buddies ds650 started to miss,pulled over and saw coolant in the oil reservoir!!blown head gsket right?So what haapens next!!tidown the ds to my 450 and lets go!!He is not a little fellow maybe 230lbs + 500lbs ds!!!I had to tow him to the check point,about 25 miles!!I figured,with all this issues I read about my 450,I said Im screwed!My ds has a temp gauge that I adquired from the parts store,well the story is pulled him and quad,sand,silt,rocks,woops!!temp never went over 190F!!!
It was kind of cold and wind blowing but!! this machine never gave up!!
After stopping at the check,he changed bikes,rested a bit and kept prerrunning for 120 miles more!!! DS 450 x Rocks!!!
Very pleased with the outcome!!
By the way My 04 DS 650 Baja is the one we are racing!!!

 

Coolant in the oil is not necessarily a head gasket issue. The waterpump seals are known for going and will dump coolant into the oil when they do. I would look there first before tearing the motor down.

Last quad to leave the starting line,after 120 miles of rough terrain we were able to move up to 4th place,the ds has no mercy on flats against the other quads!!love this quad!
We finished 3rd place in the pro class,5th overall atv class.
It was a great race the ds ran flawlessly!!!
Not to bad when your 47years old and my copilot is 38!!!
