no spark ds650
#11
I've come to the conclusion that I got a faulty pick up from the dealer. No matter what I do I can't get it to send a signal. Is there anything else that can affect this, before I take it back? Fly wheel is spinning and the metal plate thing is still on it.

The pick-up coil is magnetic - the tab on the flywheel creates a change is resistance value as it passes under the pick-up, the cdi detects this change & instructs the coil to discharge after referencing the timing curve.
"No matter what I do, I cant get it to send a signal"
How are you trying to determine that it (pick-up) is sending a "signal" ... exactly ?

I found a chart in the manual that tells you what the reading should be when checking everywire for the cdi and a bunch didnt read what they were supposed to. Plus everything going into the cdi is spot on yet there is no signal coming out the signal wire. If this doesn't give me spark I will not be a happy camper
The pick-up coil sends its "signal" Into the cdi.
What wire are you refering too, and how are you testing it when you say "there is no signal coming out the signal wire" ?

I just put a OMW 730 kit in my bike last night, had it running and everything sounded great, went back out this morning to go for a little ride and I have no spark at all. I've checked everywhere for ground and all looks good, fuses under the seat are good, i've rechecked every connection i can see still nothing. Where should i start? One thing i did notice is the switch on the clutch lever. With the key on i have no power at either of the wires that go to it, pulled in or not. I'm not to bad with wiring but i'm no expert, any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Pretty sure you're not suppose to see voltage at these wires anyway, it opens & closes a ground so the bike won't try to start in gear - the cdi references this and the nuetral wire.

I'm refering to the dynamic test for the coil, reading is supposed to be between .3 and .7 volts and i'm getting nothing from this brand new pick up assembly. Have another one i'm going to try tonight.

Just thought i'd let everyone know what it was, cdi was pooched as well as the multi switch on the handle bars. Why they both went at the same time i'm not sure but either way its good to go. thanks for the help
