Front spocket removal question
#11
14 tooth is pretty damn low specially if your running stock 20" tires. My setup right now im running a 15 in the front 42 in the rear....so im a tad lower than just switching to a 15 tooth with a 40 on the rear. I hit 78mph at 7900rpms with 22" tires on the rear. I would try a 15 first 14 is going to be VERY low.

I'm actually running a 22" rear tire. I went ahead and ran the 15t up front. Where did you get your 42t rear? Is it aluminum or steel? I was looking for a 42t steel for the back but didnt have much luck. I beat the crap out of my ds and im a big ridder so i need parts that hold up. Thanks for your help.

With the 14 1st gear is pretty much useless which by the sounds of things is what you want. The 14-40 combo is damn near the same as the 15-42, difference of about 1 MPH give or take at the top of 3rd which will be right around 48MPH at 7700. so you will still have plenty of speed left in her. Go the 14 you wont be disapointed with how zippy 2nd and 3rd feel.

I took it for a test ride around the block and i really didnt think the 15 was going to be that big of a difference, but i was surprised. I'm going to have to try the 14t next. I just wanted to say thanks for everybodys help. I'm used to getting those retarded people who have nothing to say except use search. I always search before i post, sometimes you just dont get the results you want. So far everybody here has been really helpful. I try to return the favor, even though my ds knowledge is limited right now. Is there a free pdf with the service manual on it? If not im going to have to break down and buy one.

I think you'll be happier with the 15t, but still try the 14t to see the difference for yourself. My son liked the 14t because the front end wouldn't stay on the ground with it, but when we got out in the big sand he needed more top end so he sticks with the 15/42 with 22 rears now. About the perfect balance for a wide variety of riding areas.
I've usually got something to say but I will recommend search from time to time because there is absolutely nothing about a DS that hasn't been covered on here. They haven't been built since 2007 and not alot changed on them after 02, and almost nothing after 04. Unless you call color or decals a change. I hang around because I've built up a little knowledge about the DS and there were many others on here back in the day when I was learning the pig that didn't mind to answer my questions at the time. But, I did lurk on here for over a year studying and learning before I ever joined and posted my first question. It was on after that!lol Anyway, search is invaluable and should be utilized by all.
Let us know how the 14t turned out and what you decided to stick with.
