Default Just bought a new (read post) 2007 Outlander 650 XT, does it require any maintenance?

Well my wife and I have been looking for an Outty for a while now. I have always been reluctant to buy used as I assume that all riders ride like me, and I wouldn't want to buy an ATV that I had used. We found one that seemed too good to be true, 07 650 HO XT w/ less than 200 miles on it. I know it is easy to get the miles to go away because I had an AC that got water in the gauge at 2000 miles so after replacement it magically had 0 miles. Anyways, we went to look at the machine and we pulled up to a mansion on a lake, and low and behold a doctor owned it. It looks as though it were just drove off the showroom floor, not a scratch on the plastic, the boots are immaculate, no dust in the air box, no scratches on the skid plate even. It has 170 miles on it and 15 hours I think, and I believe that is accurate according to the shape of the machine. Got it for $5900 with a 60" plow thrown in (sounded good to me for a near brand new machine, did I get ripped off?).

He changed the oil once. My question is, what maintenance, if any, should I have done to this machine? We haven't had a chance to ride it anywhere other than testing it at his house, and in our yard since we live in town. We are taking it trail riding today. Just wanted to know if I should have it dealer serviced for anything? Thank you in advance for your help and I am honored to own a Can-Am.

Sometimes just sitting around is harder on equipment than using it. For starters, I would change alll the fluids except the radiator. Grease all the zerks, esp. the driveshaft u-joints and double check the wheel lugs. Then ride it like you stole it.

Thank for the info. Does the manual detail where all greasing points are? And by change fluids would that be front and rear differential, engine oil and brake fluids? Thanks again, appreciate it.

BTW, we rode it 30 miles yesterday and the engine (or something) makes a ticking noise. Not at idle, but in any gear including N and P when the engine is revved, it makes a ticking noise like metal vibrating or something. It is not the CVT and I thought it was maybe the metal shroud over the exhaust to protect your leg vibrating, but it's not that either. The sound comes from the left side of the machine and it has to be inside. Any idea what that might be?

Let me add that it is an awesome machine. Real performer in the mud and has tons of snap that my AC 650 V2 didn't come close to having, but yet the power is much more manageable in the technical terrain. So far just an outstanding machine (except for the annoying tick).

Sorry, another thing I forgot. First of all it makes a lot of mechanical sounding noises while doing low speed technical riding, sounds like up front, sound like a problem?

Also, after going through some mud I came to a stop and put it back in 2x4 and the light went away. Rode it a little ways, it rode kinda rough, and then all of a sudden I heard a loud mechanical noise and the 4WD aparently unengaged then I guess? Anything I should worry about? Is there a technique to using the 4WD as I am familiar with AC's on the fly 4WD.

Thanks again.

Most of the noises you are hearing are comming from the clutch's, and they all do it.
We have 2 07 650 they run great my has 3500 miles on it, with no issues.
