bomberds, One other option would be to go with 8 or 9 paddles instead of 10 paddles on the 22x11x10 hauler. FYI: 20" haulers measure more like 18" which looks retarded on the big DS. Also, 10" wide sinks and digs too much due to the weight of the DS, stay with 11" width. The 22" taller tire will hook up better than the 20". I forgot to mention, I rarely can use 5th gear. So I run up to around 60MPH in 4th gear and thats about it in deep soft sand. So one could argue that the gearing/tires are too tall. However, what you have is a trade off. The trade off is between low speed/lower-gear hookup and high speed/upper-gear drag on the motor. The better the low speed hookup the worse the drag on the motor at speed. The lower the drag on the motor at speed, the worse the low speed lookup. Sand tires for the fronts are necessary in my opinion. The ideal front sand tire will give the frontend better floatation, minimal plowing/drag, great steering, and absorb bumps/ruts better. An taller tire with 8" width works best for this. Also, a tire with soft, flexable sidewalls is best. Yes, with 22" rear tires you will need a taller front tire to avoid handling/steering/stability problems. I run the 22x8x10 razorbacks from STU. They are incredible. You will need to remove the front fenders when running these tires because with the 8" width they rub. But the fender comes on/off quickly and the DS looks mean in the dunes without those fenders.
