Bad noise- Bearings?
Hey all,
Went out today with a couple buddies. Couple hours into riding my bike (04 ds650) starts making a horrid noise....my best explanation is like its similar to a worn wiper blade, like the metal on window sound. It is a metal shreeking, appears to be coming from rear of bike.
I stopped, just let bike idle along in 1st gear, in neutral coasting, clutch in, clutch out- still makes noise. I shut bike down and pushed it (in N) and made noise. I checked for crud in brakes,chain,sprockets...couldnt see or feel anything.
After having bike off for 5-10 mins I drove the few miles back to main road with no noise til I got to the road.
Any ideas? Im not sure whats for bearings and such in the back yet..gonna search on here...
Thanks, Clayton.

Well I started disassembly of the rear. I removed rear tires (wayyy over tight) got sprocket side hub off, unable to get brake side nut off today. I need the work truck with air so I can use impact. Got the caliper off, that "c" clip and retainer nut off, so rotor can slide off.
Should there be any freeplay in the carrier?? Like when I grab outer end of axle and wiggle there is some play.
Also, does the whole axle slide out the sprocket side as one piece? Or do they come out seperately, from each end?
Thanks!

Got the axle out of carrier this morning. Put in vice and hit end of axle with plastic mallet, came right out. Nasty inside, no grease just rusty bearings and water.
Got outer races out of carrier, one inner race is stuck on axle sprocket side, having hard time getting it to budge.
Another question, on the swing arm itself- the 4 bolts to adjust chain- on bottom side there is the gap with rubber seal, my seal is toast for the most part. When I get reassembled should I make a water tight seal there, using silicone or something?

No need to seal the swing arm, no water should get into your carrier from the clamp side of the swinger. My old +6 was wide open in the rear and I had no issues. I would look into the seal on the brake/sproket sides and make sure they are in good shape, that is what will let water/garbage into the bearings.

Gotchya', Thanks!
I ordered the All ***** rear bearing kit, comes with new bearings and seals.
I got race off axle, carrier and axle all cleaned up and ready to install new bearings!!
Now I get to wait on mail, but beats paying more than 2x the price and get them locally! (26$ per bearing, 16$ per seal, unreal)
