Default DS450 shocks on a DS650

I just bought some brand new DS450 shocks on ebay for a $120 shipped. Seems like a good deal. They are 18 7/16 long, I read that the 650 shocks are 19.5 inches long. Anybody ever put these on a 650 yet? I did a search and read where someone was considering this but no results posted. Kind of curious about what to expect.

yeah i was wondering about this awhile ago,go ahead and put them on im curious.I have 2 other quads im workin on so kinda got side tracked.I think for the money it would be a good deal for fully adjustable shocks.hell the std works shocks are $500 and they arent adjustable! let us know how they ride.Should be able to tune them with adjustments or they can be relved in worst case scenario.

Im sure they will work great I run 17.5" floats on my front and a raptor700 elka on the rear and love the lower stance.

Just put them on, I have a 05x model with the extra lights down low. I had to grind down the bushing to fit in the mounts about 1/8". I also had to clearance about 1/8" off of the top of the shocks to get them to fit in the 650 shock mounts, they may work with less clearancing without the bolt that holds on the extra lights. Once on I lost about 2" of downward travel compared to the shock still left on the other side. It will be a while before I get to ride it do to work and NASCAR being in KC this weekend. With the shocks the way they came the quad sits about 2" lower in front than it did before. Just by bouncing on it in the front it seems that the travel gets a lot firmer faster than it did before but now that is adjustable with preload and dampening. I did not try the springs, but it looks like the springs are interchangeable between the 650 and 450 shocks. I think the 650 springs may have to have a little preload on them before they would fit on the 450 shocks. The quad has a high rear now compared to the front but when I sit on it (225#) it sits level. More to come.....

you are going to need a shorter rear also or the front will dive when coming into a corner on the brakes. It wont be fun. The 700raptor or yfz stock shock should work it is about 2 inches shorter and cheep.

They are preloaded for a much lighter quad and you want to put them on a tank?

I havn't tried them yet but i am pretty confident that the springs will interchange although they will be longer I can back off the preload all the way. I dont know how much the valving can compensate but I will try if needed. I am not a overly aggresive jumper so I dont believe the shocks will be a huge problem for a heavier quad. I agree that the stance is a little funny and will cause problems so its good to know that the YFZ rears take care of that.

I ordered a new take off rear shock off of a yfz 450x. It is a heavier spring and high/low compression and rebound adjusters. It was a deal on ebay 96$ shipped. Hopefully it will lower the quad enough to level it out.
