Need help asap!

Default Need help asap!

Ok, so over the weekend i finally went and picked up a used 2009 can-am renegade 500 with 574 miles on it as it set. I rode it over the weekend and now it has a little over 600 miles on it. Anyways i was riding it a little today (just on my driveway) and it started to make this metallic tick noise when i rocked it back and forth, drove in reverse, but mainly when i turned. I have no idea what it is and my dad doesn't either. My dad is no mechanic, but he is really mechanically inclined especially with atvs. The problem is, is that this the first renegade we've owned, let alone the first 500 owned so he isn't that familiar with it. Has has a 2006 can-am outlander 800, but no renegade. I know there's not a huge difference but there's enough.I was planning on going riding this Saturday and i'm just wondering if this a minor or major issue? Please help and respond fast! Much appreciated!

Is this only happening when you are moving around on the driveway? If so, it is probably driveline bind. The two rear wheels are joined through the rear differential and on pavement the tires don't slip well, causing the tires to scrub as the tire on the outside of the corner has to travel further than the tire on the inside. Test it out on grass or sand and see if it still does it. If not, it's just driveline bind. They're not made to spend a lot of time on pavement. It could also be the pulleys on the CVT transmission engaging and disengaging if it is happening when you hit the throttle and let it go. That is normal.

Agreed, and the CV joints (under power usually though) on a driveway can click a little while turning from the play they have in em. If you leave any CVT Trans. ATV in gear and rock it you will hear the play in the various drive components like he said. Good to be concerned but when you're riding a big chunk of metal it can only be so quiet.

Go over to can-amtalk.com. There are alot more renagade and outy owners over there. But to me it sounds like its the rear trailing arm click. Happens when you rock it side to side. But go check that site out. Good folks over there!
