HELP!!! 04 ds 650 atv shop killed
#1
ive got a 04 Baja x. the motor was never worked on at all. no socket has ever been on most of my bike. I was having no problems. lil hard to start in freezing cold that's it.
I decide to get water pump, valves shimmed. so I wouldn't have any problems. I buy all the clutch cover seals and gaskets. take it to the shop n drop it off. pay the bill and the valves are shimmed to intake at.006 exhaust at .010. I argued up and down about the specs. .004-.006. he talked me into letting him leave it cuz of heat dissipation blah blah..n went to bring it home. noticed the pump hoses leaking. had them tighten. started quad to put in truck, battery was weak. went home to do oil change rest of OMR mods. unloaded. wouldn't turn over. pushed into garage, charge batt. front cowl nylock replaced with odd nut. missing oil tank/fuel tank bolts&nuts. Drain oil to change with new & smell clutch. look @ clutch cover & realize its not mine. its my buddys 2001 ds clutch cover that's settin there getting a rebuild. mechanic pulled mine, removed seals, realized he forgot to order one seal and decided to put the 2001's clutch cover and old seals on my bike. jerk. so then I notice the clutch lever is SUPER tight. 0% clutch free play. so I go to move the shift actuator arm. ended up cracking it when I was tightening the bolt...42$
then....2 days later after I went to the shop told them id bring my quad in next week to fix EVERYTHING they did wrong. I figure id better make sure the motor runs well after completion of omr carb mods or they try n charge me to get it started n runnin. and I needed to circulate the new oil. I go get my boat battery and start my quad and its idling in the driveway. I shut it down check n top the oil. start it back up its running good, I let it warm up. didn't jump on the throttle. took to about 3500 rpm max. let it set idoling for about 20 min. just starting to get good n warmed up and im expecting to hear my fan kick on...then it happened...
im standing in the garage and I see smoke... and a stream of coolant shooting vertical from my quad... so I start heading to my quad... then it stops...then the clear hose at the top of the radiator blows and im standing right there shuttin her down. cablow!!!!! super radiator fluid steam bath to the face...
im thinkin maybe the crummy job they did on my bike extended to them "accidently" breaking a head bolt loose.

sorry you got ripped. take your thermostat out and test it . looks like it went. either way i would replace it. overheating will blow a head gasket in a heartbeat. and check to make sure they hooked all the wires back up your fan might have been not hooked up.

Damn, that sucks. I had a similar experience with a shop in Wisconsin. Took our ATP 500 in because of a fouled rear master cylinder. They said they replaced it but they just ordered up the part and kept it and tried to fix the original. Then one day in the middle of the Wisconsin trail the rear brakes start smoking. The only reason we didn't leave the machine is because there was a shop in town on the trail that fixed it for us. Now we just work on our own machines.
