Just in case someone else runs into the same issue. Removal of the rear axle requires the shock bolt and sway bar bolts on both side to be removed, then there should be enough room to squeeze the shaft out ...barely enough.
The cog for the inner plunge joint can be tapped off using a brass punch, my old Polaris shafts had a relief spot where you have to remove the circlip from...canam doesn't.
