I have the 650 in an Outlander Max XT-P. Love it so far. Have about 1100 miles on it. I get around 22 mpg in mixed riding in New England where average speeds are around 10 mph on any given trail ride. Most guys with the 800 say they get around 20. The biggest difference I've noticed between the 650 and the 800 is control-ability. The 800 has 9 more horsepower than the 650. 71 vs. 62 hp. 800 will do wheelies in high gear, not so much the 650. In corners you have to really watch the 800. If you blip the throttle in a corner you can cause the front end to lighten so much that you have little to no steering. With a little care it's not an issue.

Thanks Moose Im leaning towards 800xt It will be my first non Polaris 4 wheeler Had A 850 xp THat did not have the best mpg And had it issues but.I liked the power figure the xta 900$ worth it for the 800 power. A friend has had 650 xt as long as can remember it sounds throaty I personally like the linq rack system lots of options for storage and racks and looks like a better thought out wheeler IMO looking forward to getting back up to Jericho St Pk have you had a chance to get on the Wilds trail ? I hear the windmills in Millsfield area are quite a sight
Thanks again for the feedback

love the 800xt can-am's (think I've owned 9 or 10 of'em)
also had an 09 xp 850- loved that too, but big difference in ride.
the can-am is way more sport tuned than the xp's cadillac feel.
I grew up on 2-stroke dirtbikes and sport quads- so I've always has a weakness for fast sporty things. As much as I liked the xp850, I find the can-am outlander / renegade makes me NOT miss my sport quad as much.
To be honest- when I went back to the dealer a year ago to buy a new atv- I was still undecided between the xp 850 touring and the outty 1000 max. After crunching the numbers and doing a little math - comparing what the outlander included with the xt package and what I'd have to spend to bring the xp up to outlander xt- the outlander 1000 was a much better deal.

if you buy new- I believe the outlander 800 & 1000 have the largest capacity gas tank offered in any 4x4 atv-

you'll love the sport tuned suspension on the outty

I have a 08 outlander 650 and my brother has a 13 renegade 800. Both really good atvs with a ton of power. I don't think there is much difference in fuel economy. If you want the same type of power as your 850 then I'd go with the 800 although the 650 is no slouch. Both are very reliable as long as you don't completely swamp it and keep up with the maintenance.

I've also owned two 650 outlanders- and I could easily keep up with the 800-
the only time the 800 shines through is top end punch and a bit more punch on when raising the tires over a berm... that 650 has plenty of power and ***** to plaster a smile on your face

my favorite atv so far has been my 09 renegade 800 x - the stock 25" tires (outlander has 26" stock) nearly bucks you off the back seat when you pin the throttle on tar! it'll wheelie right up on you- even in 4x4!

yep- if it's only $900 more for the 800 xt- do it! the xt has the premium wheels, winch, decals, wind deflectors and front / rear bumpers. and DPS is standard on all xt models now it's a great deal.
