Thumbs down DS650 Starter and Gear

Ok Guys need help. My Wife's DS was sounding like a chainsaw starting. Popped the starter out today and I can see the gear the starter connects with is damaged. The starter is also worn pretty bad. So I am thinking I will need a starter, unless you can just replace the gear part of the starter. From the diagrams I have, it looks like I can replace the starter gear by removing the side cover, shouldn't have to remove the magneto.

Next question, should I buy I new gear or am I crazy to consider and used gear and starter off ebay.

I know I have a parts manual on Cd somewhere, but can't find it. If anybody has one handy I would like the part number for the starter gear so that I can phone the dealer and price out a new one.

Let me know your thoughts
