Help me pick a quad
#1
Currently i have an 06 ltz400. I was looking to get a 4x4 for a while so me and the fiance could ride together. It doesnt have to be a 2 up quad just looking for a decent 4x4. I was really interested i. The outlander 500l. But from reading some posts it seems some people do not believe that can ams will last as long as hondas or suzukis. I would like to get something that will still run 10 years down the road. I know honda engines last for like ever, what can i expect from the can am? Should i be going for a king quad or a honda 4x4 instead?

Why leave out Yamaha ? Those things are as reliable as it gets. Also they have a larger selection line. then Honda or Suzuki.
I sold a 1989 Yamaha 350 Big Bear 4x4 to a friend that still going strong.
I think any brand will last 10 years now.
A 500 Outlander will just be a much more fun 10 years vs a 500 Honda 4x4.

I am not against yamaha, just seems all the atv places around me have much larger selections of can am and polaris. Only a few yamahas.
In the 500cc range what would be my best bet? I wanna stay around 7k if possible.

If I was looking at a 500 Class 4x4 it would be the Suzuki 500 KQ or 550 Grizzly.
The Can AMs I find are just over priced.
You can almost get a 750KQ or 700 Grizzly for the price of a 500 Outlander.
The 450 Grizzly may do all you want it,s loaded with every feature but no EFI and a smaller mid sized chassis.
The new ProStar DOHC (44hp) 570 Sportsman would also be something to look at. A lot of power and features for the price.
Not big on the 500 Hondas with a ohv 28hp motor when most all 500cc 4x4s are 35hp-40hp for some time. I just like ohc over ohv.

Almost forgot. The new 450 Outlander may be better priced then the 500 yet it has a brand new 450 motor over the old 400 outlander that makes 38hp!
That's the power the Honda 680 Rincon makes and only 2hp less then the 500 Outlander.
The new 450 is a single while the 500 Outlander is a twin.

The 400KQ is nothing like the 500KQ ,different chassis and motor all together unlike the 500KQ and 750KQ which are the same ATV except for motor displacement.
The 400KQ is SRA , rear drum with a air/oil cooled motor and smaller mid size chassis. Its a intro class 4x4.
The 500KQ is a leap up with a Full size chassis, IRS, rear disk brake, diff lock and liquid cooled motor.
Here is a good sight to compare specs and MSRP prices. 2014 Can-Am Outlander™ 500 ATVs
Just plug in the year make and model.

Not sure how they did that its the same motor and 46mm throttle body it always had since it came out in 2007.2007 Can-Am Outlander™ 500 H.O. EFI ATVs but Can-Am has its ways of squeezing every bit out.
Don't want to squeeze to much hp out of a 500cc where it turns into a ticking time bomb.
