I finally got the top off the carb, why do they tighten everthing so tight, had to use vise grips to get the screws loose. I am brand new to this so this is probably a dumb question but how to I get the needle out of the plastic piece now that I have it out of the carb? I don't want to break anything, the instructions are not detailed enough for this newby. I can see the grey cap down inside the rubber boot but how does it come loose? Thanks for the help.

You need to be careful. Use long needle nose pliers and very carefully pull the cap out of the slide. As soon as you feel the cap coming out, stop pulling before the pliers exit the slide or parts will fly all over the place. The cap is something that can break fairly easily. There is a small spring under the cap. Be careful not to lose it. The needle will now be free to come out of the slide. There are several washers that you need to not lose and remember which is which and they go together.

It came with 165 through 200 Main Jets, a fuel needle, needle spring (extra, adjusting washer and E-clip. Based on the instructions that came with the kit I installed the 180 main (0-3000 elevation, K&N & aftermarket exhaust), it had the stock 165 in it. I had to use vise grips on every single screw, I realize they need to be tight but a person should be able to remove them with a philips screw driver.

Thanks Scooby. Now to get it tuned in. I feel like it was running better befor I changed the jet from 165 to 180, just with the Custom X pipe. I am running at about 500' elevation, instructions said 180 main for 0 to 3000 feet with after market exhaust and K&N. It doesn't have the same acceleration now. Plugs are grey on the tip and black around the base, is that running too rich?

Sounds like it is. Where is the clip set at? Hopefully in the middle say 3rd or 4th position. If so I would move the clip up 2 notches and try it. If this doesnt help I would go down a size with the main jet. Remember bigger is not always better. Its good to have a GPS or something to measure your speed. A GPS is what I used when getting my jetting perfect on my Kodiak.

The needle is set on the second notch, like the instructions said for the Stage 1 set up. I talked to Peter, mfg. of the Custom X pipe last night and he said to go back to 165 jet and work up one at a time from there. He said at sea level unless they add a K&N they have been leaving them jetted at 165, with the K&N maybe going up to a 170.
