Hey guys, how would a 440ex with porting, valve job, cams, rockers, carb, Lstr +2 aarms, Lstr +2 axle and Pep shocks....bla bla..at 46rwhp stack up to a ds? I'v been racing alot of motocross and harescrambles just seein what else is out there. How would they compare in a straight line and in the corners and off jumps ect.. Not that drags mean anything to me, its just in the straights on the mx races, the ds would hold its own..and thats basicly what kept me in "range" with the other racers. ANyone rode both?

Race 1
400ex wins

Race 2
DS wins on default (the 46rwhp 400ex went back to the shop to have the engine refreshed)

My cousin has a 440ex big bore kit. Supertrap exhaust, cams, ignition box, k&n filter, air box vents, etc. We have not dragged yet but to me his 440ex feels at least as fast as my DS. If the claimed power output is true, then it should beat a DS. It is 85 lbs. lighter. But I must say that with the deals on DS's right now there is NO WAY you could buy a new 400ex and spend the money on the 440 kit for the same money as a DS. I paid $5,800 for my 2001 DS. Get a 400ex for around $5,200 and spend around $1,300 for the kit and motor work, that's about $6,500. Get a DS for $5,800(or less), put $700 in it, and I think the DS would win in a drag. Now the woods is a different story. The size and suspension mods would certainly favor the EX. It all depends on what you want. Later

lemi say one thing ...you wont get a good 440(kit) for 1,300 bucks ...the 400 has a week rod and a cheep crank you need to install a bigger rod and have the crank trued and welded solid ..my honda motor has a ton of stuff done to it ...it still only beats the ds by centameters if you want only drag racing ...the ds is easyer to moddify to go fast

Biggy, I don't think my cousin has a new crank. He paid 1,300 just for the kit and work. He also paid the local dealer to remove and install his engine AND shipping two ways. I'm not sure, but he probably has 1,600 or so in it for all of that. Also, is your DS modified at all? I haven't raced him yet, but from what your experience is I should beat him by a little. Later
