New DS shock setup
#1
This question has probably been asked before, but, I just purchased my new 01 Ds and was wondering how to setup the suspension for my weight. I am 6 feet tall and about 280+ lbs. I am not an aggressive rider at this point.I don't know what the stock settings are setup for. Also, what is this I hear about chain roller problems on the ds-650?
Thanks,

I'm 6'1" 225 and I had to tighten the front end 1-2 full turns for it to work well for me. I haven't yet felt inspired enough to try and check the toe and other settings which others will say make a good deal of difference. (Tightening the front shocks on my DS got rid of any twitchiness, and I haven't noticed anything that bothers me so I haven't felt like changing something that works.)
You will want to replace the chain roller, for whatever reason, the stock one will disintegrate within a few minutes of riding by a heavier load (one bigger rider or two riders - shame on those who've done it! ) You have three or four options for the chain roller replacement - somewhere are 3 different companies make aftermarket chain rollers, all which are said to be excellent quality, and all $30-40. Your other option is to buy a 'blank' skateboard wheel, place a total of 4 bearings in it, and use that as a chain roller. The skateboard wheel option for me and a few others has held up very well, and cost about $5. (Skateboard shops are seemingly generous with used bearings - I got mine free.)

Yeah Big Jon, I set my front to the same as you and the rear to about 4.5 in sag. I also loosened the chain a little bit. Seems way to tight, as 3tv pointed out. If you have the time, I would like to compare my settings to yours.
Thanks,
