front shocks for my ds
#2
Well I think $1,000 INCLUDING the rear shock is a pretty good deal. Elka front shocks are $1100 and TCS are $890, and that is just for the front shocks, no rear. I think the Works Performance with rezzies is a good way to go for about $500. I bought the Works Steelers and am now adding rezzies and changing to lighter springs.
Here's a tip. When ordering shocks/springs from Works for your DS, LIE ABOUT YOUR WEIGHT if you want a soft shock. There are not that many springs to choose from, and they routinely give you more spring than you want or need. They must figure it is better to overspring than underspring, 'cause bottoming out shocks can ruin them and they would be obligated to repair/replace them.
The Steelers are cheaper, and you can upgrade them later, but what a pain in the a$$. Just get the performance shocks, which can then be upgraded to TCS Sag Control for another $400.
.....I think the rear shock is fine, but it can be rebuilt if you want better.
.....Bang for the Buck, The Works Performance with rezzies is the best way to go. But watch your spring weights, I just ordered a bunch of new springs to experiment with, and should have them by now. I will post when I get the springs figured out. I weigh 210 lbs and ride aggressive-recreational, rough terrain, with just a little jumping. I am replacing the 220 lb mainspring with 175 lb main spring and replacing the 500 lb helper spring with a 250 lb spring. This main spring is shorter than the other mainspring and I will wind up using the shock body mount instead of the end piece. This should give me a softer ride with more sag.
.....Installing the rezzies myself is going to be a challenge. Sandy at Works says I can use Argon gas instead of Nitrogen, which I have for aluminum welding. But I don't have the fittings. ......Just found a shop in Silver City that says they can do it,,,,,I'll let them try. See, what a pain in the a$$ eh?

I've had my steeler shocks for about 2 weeks and realy like them. The stock shocks i had to realy stiffen up my spring. So i would not bottom out on jumps, but when riding on flat ground it realy beat me up.The work shocks gave me the best of both worlds!I know you will realy like the work shocks when the dunes get tore up!..............(Let me know how much you want for your front shocks Im intrested)

Well, now I've got a Bucket load of springs and spacers for these works shocks. I can put together a bunch of different combinations for triple rate, (even one quadruple combination). First I'm trying a combo with the heavy main spring, the new light middle spring and the short 500 lb helper. The other combo is the new light main spring with the new light middle spring and the stiff helper spring, or the short helper. Once I get the springs figured out I'll add the rezzies, then fine tune the crossover spacers . I'll let you know. And I'll let Sandy at Works know too for future reference.
