........12 inches of SUSPENSION TRAVEL that is!! ( I feel like Triumph the comic insult dog)
.......I have been experimenting again with my Works shocks, triple rate steelers with new rezzies. This time I went back to the soft mainspring, 175 lb, with the very soft 240 lb spacer and a 500 lb helper. This is a very soft sprung set up and I had pretty much dissmissed it earlier as being too soft. It has lots of sag and lots of travel.
......So I took it for a good hard long ride on familiar fireroads, rough rocky trails, a whooped out little track, and fast sandwashes.
A whole tank of gas, probably 60+ miles. I hit reserve as I was about to load it on the trailer. I had never gone through these whoops as fast or as far before, I never bottomed out, but did not go for any big jumps or hit any huge holes.
.......So if you've got it why not use it? With stiff front springs on your DS, how much of your suspension are you using? This set-up really lets the suspension work for you. Maybe not for big jumps, but it eats up rough stuff faster than anything else I've tried yet. For rough, fast trail riding it is awesome, and that's what we mostly do.
.......And the ride is sooo smooth.
.....Next I'm going to try substituting a 600 lb 2" spring for the 500 lb helper, spacers and such permitting.
......The more I play with these works shocks, the more I like them.
I've got them working for me now, not the other way around.
....If I was to race MX for the weekend in Tularosa, I would throw the heavy springs back on. Having a little inventory of springs and spacers makes these works shocks very tunable. I like.
