main jet

I had a 190 in the stock carb(on the Baja)when I went to Sand Mtn.(elev. 4000+)The first ride was at night and my pipe instantly glowed red, checked the plug looked cleaner then new....yikes!So I found a 195 and it helped alot.I was running the dyno-jet kit,uni filter on the carb/w outerwear and CT full exaust.I think at lower elevations 200 or higher is totally possible.

I live in MO elv.800ft. The best jet I ran with the stock carb was the 195 with
a K&N in the air box no lid and no tubs hooked to the box.
That was with a RW pipe.
Thanks

<< So are you saying that a similar setup, same elevation, k&n in stock airbox with no lid and a 175 main is too lean? Hurycne, what main are you running? >>
Check your plug.
With the K&N in the box(lid off) and no jet-kit you are still restricting some air flow so you might be just a little lean.
If you take the seat off and rev the motor you can actually see the carb to airbox tube compress trying to get more air.

This is actually a problem i am having, hurycne posted for me, me and hurycne have the same mods, the only difference is he is running a graydon pipe & i got big gun, he is running a carb mount and mine is connected too the stock tube but the box is removed. Iam losing big power up top for some reason, we are side by side in gears till third, then we hit third and he runs off, all the way to the top, not rider differece because we switched and i beat him. I had a shop jet mine they said they jetted it stage 3, i later pulled my bowl and seen they a 210 main in it, the plugs were a little rich up top. pulled hurycnes bowl and he had a 165, thats a big differece!!!! any input please HELP ???? Could my clutch be slipping up top???? HELP

Keep in mind folks, Dynojet jets are not directly transferable to Mikuni jets. What I mean to say is that a 210 Dynojet jet is actually larger than the Mikuni jet of the same #. They are designed to fit in the carb, but coralating the sizes of the two brands is not an exact science from what I understand. Either way, the tube is choking you off, and 210 sounds way too big.

I'm running the Big Gun Race exhaust with a clamp-on K&N directly on the carb. Big Gun recommended a 175 main jet so that's what I put in. I run this jet at Glamis with no problems. Sometimes I put the stock jet back in when we ride in the mountains in the summer but have also run the 175 up there with no flat spot problems anywhere in the power band. I check the plugs frequently and they appear to be spot on.
