Has anyone with a non-Baja DS been able to take possession of a Factory Tachometer? If not, is there anyone who produces one to the same or better level of quality? I've heard that some of the units on the market aren't quite as 'nice' as the factory unit. Also, what is the truth about pricing on these things? I have heard the factory unit started at $125, then supposedly it was changed to like $225 or something.

To sum it all up, "Whaddya know about the DS650 Tachometer saga?"

Hey Blackhawk~
My dad was getting me a factory tachometer for christmas, but they weren't available at that time. I am on the waiting list now for a tach and was told it will be about the end of February before mine comes in. Of course, Bombardier took almost 3 months to send me my rebate for buying the new machine when I was told only 2-4 weeks! As for price, sorry, can't help you there. I'm guessing it cost somewhere around that $125 figure.

WIscrambler,

If you do actually get the Tach, let me know. I figure when you get it, I'll ask my dealer one more time. If they can't hook me up, then maybe I'll try and order it from wherever you got yours. I really like the $125 price tag better. Though, for $125, does it come with the equiptment to hook it up, or just the tach itself?

FYI it looks to me that the tachometer Bombardier uses on the Baja is made by Auto Meter. Pic of Auto Meter Pro-Comp 3-3/4" Tach Of course you would need to make sure that the pulse count of the DS650 matches one of the 4/6/8 settings of the automotive version. Two stroke Polaris 400's use the 4 cylinder setting when running an automotive tach.

Blackhawk~
I am assuming the tach will come with everything needed to fully install it on my DS...mounting hardware, wiring, the tach, and instructions. I'll definitely post when I get the tach installed and let you know what was included for the $125 price.

The wiring contains only about 3 wires to connect so if is fairly easy to do. Besides I have a tach and you will rarely look at it. When you are going fast enough to use it you are going too fast to take your eyes off the dirt!
