I think I would like to get a new cdi, but do they make one that will plug into the baja's wiring. I don't want to splice into the wiring.

I had talked to knutz before and he said they did not have one out yet.

My other question is why does bomb set the rev limiter so low, is there a problem going over 8000 rpm. It seems pretty low, the other 4 strokes are at like 9000 or higher.

Can the cdi be set say at like 9000 or so to avoid overreving on a missed shift or something. Occasionally I will miss a shift, I am not a professional.

Thanks for any help

I was "afraid" of the no limit CDI too. But I got so sick of hitting the limiter, just when I needed the power,,fffffffttt. So I got Team Pami's CDI from Knutz. No limiter. It just plugged in. I only have a K&N and a HMF slip-on modified Quiet Core with a 175 mainjet. It does not want to rev out of sight, in fact it is just right. The engine wants to rev past the stock limiter for sure, but not that much more. It runs out of air, or gas or power or all of the above, and you know to shift before this point anyway because the power falls off. A tach would be really nice.
..... It would take some more mods, like a carb or cams for this thing to over-rev. Oh I bet if I really tried I could hurt it, but it would have to be delibrate or incredibly stupid. Heavy duty valve springs should probably be part of any further mods. But I am very happy with my broader than stock powerband. The CDI adds top end, the HMF adds low end.
......Even a missed shift is not going to over-rev it and float the valves thereby having a close encounter of the piston kind.
....... I am surprised and a bit dissapointed that the Baja limiter is still too low, but it should be worth something to somebody.
........Don't sweat it, just get it!

Batoutahell,
I put the RW cdi (off my other DS)on my Baja.I took my RW cdi to a automotive wiring shop, and found a female connector that matched up to the RW cdi(in a pile of old connectors)You could probably find one at a auto or motorcycle dismantler. The internal pins of connector are the same as the Baja's wiring harness connector,so it is a matter swapping out the connector(no splicing is needed)It's a 10 minute job,A paper clip works perfect for releasing the pins.
The wiring colors do not match up so here is the color to color conversion that worked for me.
RW cdi to Baja harness conn.

RW-cdi...to...Baja-wiring
red......to...red/violet
white....to...black/yellow
orange...to...white/green
black....to...black
blue.....to...black
green.........not used

I dont know if it matters wich black goes to blue, but mine worked the first time.
Hope this helps
Jeff

Does the After-market CDI boxes offer anything else besides higher revs? Like a torque curve or something,or maybe advance your timing for better low and mid range. I ask because I hardly ever hit my limiter, I guess I have conditioned my riding. But if it offers some thing more I would definatly consider it.

What is the difference between the RW cdi and the pami/knutz cdi. I am just curious, like bigger said, is there a difference in the timing curve, or do they just remove the rev limiter.

Thanks for the help and info.
