I just bought a 2000 DS. I paid $4,800 for it. It has about 15 hours. No mods just some hand gaurds and a new battery. Good deal or not?

Anyone else from Iowa?

How do you like it so far? I love mine for wide open riding but it is a challenge in the woods. Have you ever been to fort dodge riding? There is abought 3-5 thousand acers of extreme hills and woods. It is only abought an hour-hour and a half for you. It is 2 1/2 for me but I would go every weekend if it wouldent result in a devorce. It is way to tecnecal and hilly to try and take the wife. If you ever want to check it out let me know and we can hook up and see if we can get lost. Without a local guide you could drive for hours and never find your way out. Lukily every time I go I have found a local to show me around. just when i think ive seen it all someone takes me to anouther new section. It is huge. Like one of the locals said it is Iowas best kept secret.

I'd change the oil filter, cover and bolts to the 2001 type for more filtering surface. Protect it you don't want to have to buy a new motor for $3,000.

I think you got a GREAT deal. Most people in CA paid around $7k for the quad. Bomb. was offering a $1000 rebate back around August of 01 which allowed some to get theirs for $6k but ask most people what they paid out the door and you will hear between $7k and $8k. Heck, there was one in the paper for $6k the other day (USED).

Enjoy the quad. Check the prior posts for no oil pressure after roll over and read your manual of what to do in the event of a roll over. Hope it doesn't happen but don't want to see you roll it over then ride the rest of the day and not have an engine the next day.

I think that I practically stole my '01 DS. The guy that I bought it from is a good friend and business associate. He purchased it new, rode it a little under four hours, and ended up getting tossed off the back and damaging the factory grab bar. The only thing that I had to do was purchase a new grab bar and change the break-in oil & filter. I wrote him a check for $5,000.00 and loaded it up. He is not experienced with sport quads and didn't want to hurt himself any more. He's got a Traxter XL and will now stick with the Utility quads.

I got my DS for $6880.00 out the door. And I garantee that your DS will do anything mine will. Congrats on your good deal. Put a pipe on it or a Modded endcap(my personal favorite)and unleash the power.

Did you modify your own endcap or purchase a mod? If you purchased it, where did you come across it?

I have them made thru my design. And they work great, I have made acouple for some guy's on this forum and I'm making one right now for badds650, I have been letting them go for cost at 30$. I personally think that this endcap is as good as any aftermaket pipe out their. And I say that because I have rode with alot of piped DS's and Raptors and have been very pleased with the performance.

My references on this forum would be: Buttfungus, Hurycne, roostinonyou, 14 mins, Bansheeboy2k1, and soon will be badbombardier650.

P.S. these endcaps are a personal design that I congered up to save money, and it turned out well. I am not a manufacturer, just a guy that tries to get as much cheap HP out of his machine as possible.

You'll want a aftermarket CDI box either from Ron Wood Racing or Team Pami. That will unleash more revs. The factory CDI box has the max RPMs set WAY too low.
