i am selling my honda 400ex and i was thinking either a ds or a 250r now i am i big guy( 6'2 260) and i like a lot of power and to get a lot of air my question is that is a ds reliable machine and will it compete with a 250r do you think it is trail rideable? and could i race mx with it? also what are any problems with it you have had thanxx

I had a 400EX myself before moving up to the DS. Yes, the Bomb is reliable and no, it's not the best chioce for competitive MX. I ride mine on MX tracks all the time, but if you're serious about it a C-dale or modified (suspension) Raptor will work better.

While most say it isn't meant for the trails, I can tell you I've had no problems on the tight tree and rock lined trails of MA. I have no problem keeping up with the smaller 400ex and Raptors I ride with, you just need to pay more attention to where you put your front end. I am also 6'2 and about 250 and the DS is the most comfortable quad I've ever been on.

Well as far as competing goes stock for stock a DS will romp all over a 250r in acceleration and top speed. I have never rode a 250r on any type of track but i like the feel of my DS around corners on our local flat track.

How do you like the size of your 400ex? If you like it, go with the 250R. I'm 6'2 and was up to 240 at one point when I had my 250r and size was never an issue. I got the DS because I primarily ride dunes and I wanted a bigger, more comfortable seat and longer travel suspension. I rode MX with my friend who has a 400ex and it was way more fun than my 250R.

I'm 6'5", 220, When i first started checking out the DS I thought I would really like the larger size and I was right, the DS is it for me as I'm sure japan will never produce anything of it's size. Coming from the R you will probably notice the weight but I think you will get used to it, probably notice it in the air the most

Hey phaskell i dont know why every one says the ds cant mx.
but i sponsor a young man in the cop classic and he rides a quadzilla @52"wide in the front and 50" at the rear and is as big as the ds and is a consistant
winner. go figure that fat pig wins every time.so as said before you make the bike.not the bike making you.and as far as dependable look at the list of bikes i own nothing is more dependable than the ds. and i own a 400ex and the power differance is out of this world and the 250r is not even a contender while in its day it was the king its day is done sorry. guy's but thats the truth
and to set the stories straight us smaller guys like it too.at 5'10 and 200lbs im one of the small guy's.WOW who would have THUNK IT.

I don't know if this make any diference to you but you will find that compared to the 400EX the DS is sadly lacking in aftermarket goodies, the situation is getting better but it's not close to the ammount of stuff offered for the EX, R, Raptor, Banshee
